Once again in 2009, the Porsche Carrera Cup GB runs alongside the MSA British Touring Car Championship at the most important and prestigious race meetings in Britain. The 10-weekend schedule features 20 races at all of the leading race circuits in Britain, including Brands Hatch, Silverstone, Oulton Park and Donington Park.

Through its direct involvement in British motorsport, Porsche Cars GB has built customer awareness and interest in Porsche motorsport in the UK.  Race Dates     Race Results

The Vehicle

All competitors in the Carrera Cup Great Britain race technical identical 997-based 911 GT3 Cup cars. The vehicles are technically identical and entered the 2008 motorsport season with engine output increased to 420 bhp. Few changes are possible to the car, which ensures that results are based on driver skill. Major changes compared to its predecessor include the six-speed sequential gearbox and abandonment of ABS. The 911 GT3 Cup car weighs 1,150 kg.

The Tyres

All tyres used in the Carrera Cup GB are provided by series partner Michelin. Each competitor is allowed to use two sets of slick racing tyres per race weekend, although the number of rain tyres is unlimited. Pre-heating and any type of chemical and mechanical treatment of the tyres is not allowed.

The Classification

In each race, drivers will score points on the following scale: 20-18-16-14-12-10-9-8-7-6-5-4-3-2-1 to the first 15 drivers in each race, with an additional point for pole position and a point for fastest lap in each race. Once again in 2009, the Carrera Cup GB will continue to have a pro-am category for non-professional drivers. Trophies will be awarded to the drivers who finish in first, second and third place in each race in both the pro and pro-am categories. Pro-am drivers’ points count towards both the pro and pro-am categories.

Continuing in 2009 is the pro-am2 category for drivers competing in 2007 model year cars and earlier. Points will be scored on the basis of 10-9-8-7-6-5-4-3-2-1, with an additional point for pole position and a point for fastest lap in each race. Pro-am2 points can only be scored in eight race weekends.

Prize Fund

Prize money for each round will be awarded on the following scale:
Pro category: £750-£600-£500-£350-£300
Pro-am category: £500-£400-£300-£250-£200
Driver of the Weekend: £500
Team of the Weekend: £1000

The end of season team awards will be as follows:

The end of season drivers’ awards will be as follows:
Professional:
1st £15000
2nd £10000
3rd £6000

Professional Amateur 1:
1st £7000
2nd £4000

The overall Driver Champion, the Pro-Am 1 Class Winner and the Manager of the winning Team in the Carrera Cup Great Britain 2009 will have the use of a Porsche 911 road car for one year, commencing from the day of the end of season awards evening. The Most Improved Driver Through the Year will win £1000.

Competitors

A fleet of cars, each delivering 420 hp, will again ensure that the Porsche Carrera Cup GB is the fastest one-make sports and GT series in Britain. At least three of the top four drivers from the 2008 Porsche Carrera Cup GB plan to return for the new season and take on the challenge of a raft of fresh faces in what is shaping up to be one of the championship’s best ever years.

Over 20 races at British Touring Car Championship events, a fine field of 911GT3 Cup cars will deliver plenty of action as defending champion Tim Harvey battles to take back-to-back titles.

Harvey has been around the sport long enough to know just how tough it is to repeat title wins. However, having battled for five years to win the Carrera Cup crown, he’ll come out fighting over the opening races of the season.

The man who ran Harvey so close in 2008 is also due to return and Michael Caine sees the Carrera Cup GB as unfinished business. So too does Tim Bridgman, the driver who won the most races in 2008.

Ranged against this trio of formidable racers will be a crop of Carrera Cup newcomers after pre-season interest ran at record levels. Carrera Cup GB Scholarship winners Tom Bradshaw and Lewis Hopkins are among the new names and it is 19-year old Bradshaw who starts the season with a real chance of challenging for race wins.

But the youngest racer on the grid will be George Richardson, who will still only be 17-years old when the season finishes! Other strong newcomers include Robert Lawson and Ollie Jackson for what promises to be a superb season of racing.
