The 986 Boxster marked Porsche's return to a purpose built 2 seat roadster since the famed 550 Spyder. This liberating open cockpit platform was instrumental in saving Porsche from financial uncertainty and was Porsche highest volume seller from 1997 to 2003, until the Cayenne entered the Porsche line up.

The perfectly balanced mid engine 986 Boxster was designed to deliver driving excitement on sinuous back country roads while enabling the driver (and passenger) to literally take in the sights, sun and smells of the surrounding environment and listening to the intoxicating mechanical sounds of a flat 6 Boxer engine tones.

The Boxster experience can only be further heightened by adding improved performance. The IPD Plenums provide impressive the power gains throughout the entire power band making for an even more visceral Porsche driving experience.

All 986 Boxster IPD Plenum applications are designed to utilize the larger 74mm Porsche throttle body. The combination of the patented "Y" design of the IPD Plenum combined with a larger TB allow for improved air flow and intake air speed. The IPD Plenum is the absolute single best performance mod you can install on a Porsche Boxster.

IPD offers 2 different 986 Boxster plenum versions, each specifically suited to work with different model years and engine displacements.

Installation of the 986 Boxster IPD Plenums comes with additional hardware and is relatively straight forward although IPD strongly recommend installation be performed by a trained Porsche technician.

The 2.7 liter 986 Boxster S Plenum provides about the same power gains as with the 3.2 liter S Boxsters, again delivering peak power in the midrange where we enjoy it most.

The 74mm Boxster IPD Plenum and upgraded 74mm (from 68mm) throttle body package is recommended for Boxster enthusiasts looking for considerable performance gains. Performance gains can be felt throughout the entire power band making the Boxster driving experience even more visceral.

In fuel injected engines, the throttle body is the part of the air intake system that controls the amount of air flowing into the engine, in response to driver accelerator pedal input in the main. The throttle body is usually located between the air filter box and the intake manifold, and it is usually attached to, or near, the mass airflow sensor.

The largest piece inside the throttle body is the throttle plate, which is a butterfly valve that regulates the airflow. Have a larger diameter throttle body produces more air flow with equals more power. The upgrades should be used in conjunction with the competition plenums.

Improving throttle response, horsepower, torque, and engine sound, the cold air intake for the Porsche Boxster is your answer to a better driving experience. Tested for air flow and MAF voltage readings, DesignTek has developed a check engine light free intake that is able to add performance to the Porsche Boxster. The all aluminum intake tube retains the factory diameter including our CNC machined 6061 aluminum MAF housing. Fitting up to the stock intake hose with no hassles, the filter then is secured behind our heat shield. The heat shield is built to separate the filter and the motor to keep the incoming air flow from the side intake duct a true Cold Air experience. The heat shield fits snuggly in place of the factory box and is made from light weight aluminum. The shield includes adjustable brackets which fit to the stock location.

As tested on a Boxster S using a Mustang all wheel drive dyno, the intake made a very respectable 5-7 wheel horsepower gain from 4000 to 6000 rpm with a peak increase of 2 wheel horsepower. The intake improved torque between 6-8 ft/lbs at the wheels from start to about 6000 rpm with a peak increase of 7ft/lbs. With a drive train loss of 15%, the intake will give your Boxster approximately a 9.2 crank horsepower gain.

The intakes include a K&N high flow cone air filter which is reusable for the life of the vehicle. The intakes come finished in a black powder coat.

DESIGN AND MATERIALS
Qualified engineers using advanced software and expert technicians using the latest technologies produce BMC air filters. An F1 filter must be very light, must be made of the best raw materials and must improve performance. For this reason we use only alloy mesh with epoxy coating to ensure protection from petrol fumes and from oxidization due to the humidity of the air. The filtering material is composed of a special cotton gauze soaked with low-viscosity oil to give you the best air permeability.
