For the Porsche 996 (1997-2004) and the 986 Boxter(1997-2004), there is a fairly common fault which can cause owners some difficulty. Often Steering Rack Problems are caused by a leak. When faced with this problem, many Porsche owners opt for getting their power steering refurbished, this is effective but expensive. If you examine the pipes and find that they are the source of the leak (as they commonly are) there is a much cheaper solution.
