Porsche Boxter Bergspyder

This one seat Boxter was an experiment in celebration of the 50th anniversary of the Porsche 909. It’s common practice for car companies to build experimental car concepts. Sometimes, a one-off car is created and never put into production.

In this case, the Porsche Boxter Bergspyder was built in 2015, destined to never make it to production. It was built in honour of the Porsche 909’s 50th birthday. The 909 was nicknamed the ‘Burgspyder’ which to this day, remains Porsches lightest ever race car, with a kerb weight of just 384kg. Porsche’s executive board commissioned a special car based on the then current Boxter Spyder. Sharing the same white and green colours of the 909 it was paying tribute to.

Porsche estimated that this new vehicle would be reaching 62mph in less than four seconds and a sub 7 mins 30 seconds Nurburgring lap time. So why did we never get this lightweight beast into full production? Porsche says that “A major question mark remained as to whether the car would be eligible for registration in some countries” and so, sadly they had to abandon the project, and now, this unique prototype, loves as the only one of his kind in the Porsche Museum.
