Spotlight: Russell’s 964 Carrera 2
‘Spotlight’ is a monthly series where we highlight the Porsches of different customers, getting to know the story behind the purchase.
This month we were back again with a familiar face – Russell Quirk – talking about one of his latest additions to his Porsche collection, a stunning red 1989 964 Carrera 2, which he had picked up from JZM Porsche.

Russell, who works in the property industry, is a firm believer that air-cooled Porsche 911s – specifically 964s – are the best investment you can make.
As Russell says, “I think that money is probably still safer in an air-cooled 911 than it is in gilts bonds and the stock market… I think these things are going to continue to go up given the right car with the right provenance and so on.”
We must give the disclaimer that we as a company are not endorsing buying a Porsche as an investment.
It is evident that Russell has a sincere affection for older Porsches in general, but, owing to the fact he owns two of them, it is clear he is passionate about the Porsche 964 generation line in particular.
When prompted as to why he especially appreciates the Porsche 964 model, Russell told us, “first of all it had a very, very limited production run.”
As he then goes on to explain, this was a consequence of the recession that plagued the Globe at the time of its production.
“I think it’s one of the lowest production numbers of any model in the 911 range since the beginning of the 911.”
He continues with more of his arguments for Porsche 964 ownership – which you can hear about by watching the video above – each of which is filled with interesting information and quirky facts about the model generation.
In terms of his specific Porsche 964, Russell – who recently picked it up in Hertfordshire – has had a lot of work done to it prior to his ownership.
This work includes a bare metal respray, a complete engine rebuild, freshly installed wheels and even the introduction of KW suspension.
