It\u2019s not trying too hard. You\u2019ve got cars mid-build, parts laid out, tools where they\u2019ve been used last. It feels like a working space where things actually happen, not somewhere built for show.<\/p>\n<p data-start=\"526\" data-end=\"849\">For the latest Porklife podcast with Design911 and Porsche in the Park, we headed out to the Netherlands to sit down with Rick, the man behind Rico Customs, alongside Mo from SickAlps. What started as a conversation about cars quickly opened up into something bigger. It became about how this all started, how it\u2019s grown, and the people behind it.<\/p>\n<h2 data-section-id=\"1as9icm\" data-start=\"856\" data-end=\"875\">How It All Began<\/h2>\n<p data-start=\"877\" data-end=\"970\">Like most good stories in this world, it didn\u2019t start with a business idea. It started young.<\/p>\n<p data-start=\"972\" data-end=\"992\">Rick puts it simply:<\/p>\n<p data-start=\"994\" data-end=\"1141\">\u201cIt all started with a hobby\u2026 just a passion for the cars. I fell in love with old cars when I was about 12.\u201d<\/p>\n<p data-start=\"1143\" data-end=\"1266\">That early exposure stuck. Being around older cars, going to the track, seeing things up close. It builds something in you.<\/p>\n<p data-start=\"1268\" data-end=\"1336\">By 18, he had his first car and started figuring things out himself.<\/p>\n<p data-start=\"1338\" data-end=\"1427\">\u201cYou make a lot of mistakes\u2026 but that was the fun.\u201d<\/p>\n<p data-start=\"1429\" data-end=\"1551\">That way of learning is still part of what Rico Customs is today. I just love this place. For me, this is the dream garage.\u201d<\/p>\n<p data-start=\"1877\" data-end=\"1898\">That tells you a lot.<\/p>\n<p data-start=\"1900\" data-end=\"2059\">It\u2019s easy for something like this to become just work. Here, it still feels personal. That quiet moment in the workshop, just taking it all in, is still there.<\/p>\n<h2 data-section-id=\"9vb9l2\" data-start=\"2066\" data-end=\"2092\">The Way They Build Cars<\/h2>\n<p data-start=\"2094\" data-end=\"2135\">There\u2019s a clear approach at Rico Customs.<\/p>\n<p data-start=\"2137\" data-end=\"2248\">It\u2019s not about building something flashy for the sake of it. It\u2019s about making a car that feels right to drive.<\/p>\n<p data-start=\"2250\" data-end=\"2397\">\u201cWe make it as light as possible. We only use what we need to have fun\u2026 only the essentials and no bullshit.\u201d<\/p>\n<p data-start=\"2399\" data-end=\"2415\">That sums it up.<\/p>\n<p data-start=\"2417\" data-end=\"2623\">Most builds start with classic Porsche platforms, often the 3.2 Carrera, and get reworked into something lighter, sharper and more focused. Around 950 to 1050 kilos, with strong power and proper suspension.<\/p>\n<p data-start=\"2625\" data-end=\"2672\">But everything starts with one simple question.<\/p>\n<p data-start=\"2674\" data-end=\"2744\">\u201cWhat\u2019s your goal with the car?\u201d<\/p>\n<p data-start=\"2746\" data-end=\"2874\">That shapes everything. A relaxed Sunday car is completely different to something you want to drive hard through mountain roads.<\/p>\n<p data-start=\"2876\" data-end=\"3005\">From there, the details follow. Driving trips that bring together people who don\u2019t know each other, all linked by a shared interest.<\/p>\n<p data-start=\"3737\" data-end=\"3851\">\u201cWe just wanted to bring people together\u2026 people who have never met before.\u201d<\/p>\n<p data-start=\"3853\" data-end=\"3951\">There\u2019s something quite bold about that. No arriving with your usual group. But the focus isn\u2019t on status. Small projects, no pressure, just figuring it out.<\/p>\n<p data-start=\"5075\" data-end=\"5146\">Then came the moment where he had to decide whether to take it further.<\/p>\n<p data-start=\"5148\" data-end=\"5238\">\u201cIf these projects go through\u2026 I\u2019m going to quit.\u201d<\/p>\n<p data-start=\"5240\" data-end=\"5251\">And he did.<\/p>\n<p data-start=\"5253\" data-end=\"5373\">That step is never easy. Leaving something stable to back yourself takes a lot. But it\u2019s what pushed everything forward.<\/p>\n<h2 data-section-id=\"1qrxnnz\" data-start=\"5380\" data-end=\"5410\">Built Through Relationships<\/h2>\n<p data-start=\"5412\" data-end=\"5500\">Another thing that stands out is how much this has been shaped by the people around him.<\/p>\n<p data-start=\"5502\" data-end=\"5535\">Mo has played a big part in that.<\/p>\n<p data-start=\"5537\" data-end=\"5647\">\u201cHe\u2019s been super supportive\u2026 if I have ideas or problems, I call him.\u201d<\/p>\n<p data-start=\"5649\" data-end=\"5689\">That kind of support makes a difference.<\/p>\n<p data-start=\"5691\" data-end=\"5845\">It goes beyond that as well. Customers become long-term connections. People help source cars in different countries. Others help with logistics or advice.<\/p>\n<p data-start=\"5847\" data-end=\"5924\">It\u2019s not just a workshop. Build something properly and make sure it works wherever it ends up.<\/p>\n<p data-start=\"6156\" data-end=\"6227\">The workshop itself is growing too. More space, more cars, more demand.<\/p>\n<p data-start=\"6229\" data-end=\"6262\">But the core idea hasn\u2019t changed.<\/p>\n<p data-start=\"6264\" data-end=\"6323\">Keep things simple. Build them properly.
