Joining the Porsche owners\u2019 club isn\u2019t always a high bar. As others have mentioned<\/a>, if you have a Porsche of any stripe, you\u2019re one of us. In this simple tale, Russell describes how a simple person-meets-car tale can fire an affair that burns bright.<\/em><\/strong><\/p>\n

\u201cThis is my old banger. A ratty old 3L Porsche 911 SC that I picked up last year from the lovely people at Bure Valley Classics<\/a>. It cost just \u00a338,000. Now, admittedly, that\u2019s a lot of cash, but not for an air-cooled, classic 911.<\/p>\n

\u201cThe SC is the cheapest of air-cooled 911s, the runt of the litter, the ugly duckling, if you will. Now, when it was first launched in 1978 with 180 bhp it was described as underpowered and despite SC standing for \u2018Super Carrera\u2019, some purists say there was nothing \u2018super\u2019 about it.<\/p>\n

\u201cMany preferred the later 3.2 Carrera; some prefer the original \u2018flat six\u2019 cars \u2013 the early Carreras, the long hood<\/a>, but these are all much more expensive and cost between \u00a350 – \u00a3100,000. The 993 and the 964 are at the top end of that range now.<\/p>\n

Well, I like it. So there!<\/strong><\/h2>\n

\u201cThe SC is underrated and, in my opinion, undervalued. The Super Carrera is a wonderful sports car, especially for the money. In fact, it\u2019s the car that I\u2019ve used more than any other since I bought it back in September last year.<\/p>\n

\u201cWhy? Because it\u2019s authentic, it has character. It\u2019s a lightweight, classic sports car with grunt and a unique noise. It handles and stops well and still turns heads at 45 years old \u2013 something most of us might be rather envious of.<\/p>\n

Get yourself a swan-to-be\u2026<\/strong><\/h2>\n

\u201cThe moral of the story of the ugly duckling is that it blossomed into an elegant, beautiful thing to be admired. That is the Porsche 911 SC<\/a>, and if I were you I\u2019d grab one below sub-40K<\/a> while you still can.\u201d<\/p>\n
