What Are OE and OEM Parts?<\/strong><\/h3>\n

First, let\u2019s decode the jargon:<\/p>\n

OE<\/strong> stands for Original Equipment<\/strong>. In plain English, every part that rolls out with a brand-new Porsche is OE. As Lawrence explains, there are three ways these parts come into being:<\/p>\n

  1. Porsche designs & manufactures the part themselves.<\/li>\n
  2. Porsche designs the part but outsources its production to a third party.<\/li>\n
  3. Porsche provides specifications to a manufacturer, who then develops the part within strict parameters.<\/li>\n<\/ol>\n

    Regardless of the process, if it\u2019s fitted to your car at the factory, it\u2019s OE.<\/p>\n

    OEM<\/strong>, on the other hand, refers to Original Equipment Manufacturer<\/strong> parts. These are made by the same companies that supply Porsche but are sold under the manufacturer\u2019s branding instead of Porsche\u2019s. Same factory, same specs, different box.<\/p>\n

    As Lawrence puts it: \u201cThey\u2019re made in exactly the same factory to the exact same spec. The only difference is the packaging and the absence of a Porsche kite mark.\u201d<\/p>\n

    There\u2019s a common misconception that OEM parts are somehow inferior to OE ones. Not true. Lawrence sets the record straight: \u201cOEM parts are identical to OE parts in everything but name and price.\u201d<\/p>\n
