Parts For 993 (911) (1994-1998)

About 993 (911) (1994-1998)

The Porsche 993, manufactured and sold from January 1994 to early 1998 (model years 1995–1998 in the United States), marked the fourth generation of the iconic Porsche 911 sports car, succeeding the 964. Its production cessation signaled the end of the era of air-cooled 911 models.

Distinguishing itself from its predecessor, the 993 underwent significant enhancements and alterations. Porsche claims that virtually every aspect of the car, including the engine, was entirely reimagined, with only 20% of parts retained from the previous generation. Referred to by Porsche as "a significant advance, not just from a technical, but also a visual perspective," the 993 showcased a new light-alloy subframe with coil and wishbone suspension, effectively addressing the previous issue of lift-off oversteer. This overhaul contributed to an overall refinement, enhancing the driving experience. Additionally, the 993 was the first 911 to be equipped with a six-speed transmission.

Featuring various iterations like its predecessors, the 993 offered a range of body styles, engines, drivetrains, and optional equipment. The introduction of the VarioRam system notably boosted power, particularly in the midranges, accompanied by an enhanced throttle noise at higher revolutions, resulting in a remarkable 15% power increase over its forerunner.

Designed by English designer Tony Hatter, the external aesthetic of the Porsche 993 retained the foundational body shell architecture of its predecessors but introduced revised exterior panels. These alterations included more pronounced flared wheel arches, sleeker front and rear bumper designs, an enlarged retractable rear wing, and teardrop mirrors, contributing to a contemporary and dynamic appearance.
