Porsche People: Guy’s 991 GT3 RS – Built to Drive, Shared with Passion

In Essex’s leafy town of Epping lives a man who doesn’t just own a Porsche – he lives and breathes the brand. Whether he’s flying around a track, cruising the B-roads, or organising one of the UK’s most loved air-cooled meets, Guy – known on Instagram as @askgeez – is one of those owners who makes the Porsche community feel like home. His weapon of choice? A striking paint to sample Voodoo blue 991 GT3 RS – a car as bold and focused as the man himself.

A Lifelong Love for Porsche

Like many Porsche fans, Guy’s love for the marque was born long before he got behind the wheel of one. “It started when I was a kid,” he explains. “My neighbour had a gold 911 SC with a Pasha interior. I remember lying in bed, listening to him come home late at night, hearing that flat-six echo down the road. I used to draw 911s on my schoolbooks.”

Then came the moment that sealed his fate – his stepsister’s boyfriend owned a 964 Turbo with the number plate ‘TUR 80’. “That car was so cool – I was hooked from that point on.”

Fast forward to today, and that obsession has matured into a full-blown lifestyle. Guy is a regular at Porsche events around the UK, co-organiser of Porsches by the Lake, and the proud owner of a properly driven GT3 RS.

The 991 GT3 RS – A Brief History

When Porsche launched the 991 GT3 RS in 2015, it marked a serious leap forward in motorsport-inspired road cars. Based on the 991.1 platform, the RS went even further than the already potent GT3, with wider arches, a more aggressive aero package, and the 4.0-litre engine that many consider to be one of the greatest naturally aspirated flat-sixes ever built.

It was the first GT3 RS to feature a PDK-only setup – controversial to some purists, but lightning-quick on both road and track. Porsche also gave it trick rear-wheel steering, a magnesium roof to lower centre of gravity, and optional PCCB brakes for those serious about shaving tenths off lap times.

The GT3 RS was, and still is, a car designed to be used. Not babied. Not just garaged. And that’s exactly how Guy treats his.

The 991 GT3 RS – “It’s Built to Drive – So I Do.”

Guy’s RS isn’t just a Sunday showpiece. It’s racked up more miles in his first year of ownership than it had in the previous seven. “I don’t buy cars to hide them away,” he says. “You’ve paid the money, you’re paying the insurance, you might as well enjoy it. Otherwise, what’s the point?”

From spirited runs on Essex backroads to proper use on track, the GT3 RS lives the life it was built for. “Obviously it’s fast – that goes without saying – but the way it makes you feel is what really matters. Every time I drive it, it puts a huge smile on my face.”

When he first bought the car, it went straight to Max Protect for full PPF protection. Now he’s eyeing up a set of tartan seat centres – “something a bit retro, maybe from Innovate” – to give it that perfect custom touch.

Community First: Porsches by the Lake and Beyond

Beyond the wheel, Guy plays an active role in building the community around him. Alongside mates James Velcott (@911_spy) and Andy Bowers (@friedeggt3), he co-founded Porsches by the Lake – a laid-back gathering that’s grown steadily over the past four years.

But that’s just one of many events in his calendar. “This weekend I’m off to Simply Porsche, next weekend is Wheels & Watches with Design911,” he says. “It’s a bit of a joke really how many I go to – but I love it.”

What keeps him coming back? “The people. That’s the truth. The Porsche scene is incredibly welcoming. Doesn’t matter if you’ve got a Boxster or a Carrera GT – everyone’s in it for the same reason. It’s about the love for the brand, the shared experience.”

A Longstanding Design911 Customer

Guy’s relationship with Design911 goes back to the early days. “I remember your first unit at Fairlop Waters. Back then I had a Boxster and used to come in for bits and accessories.”

His more recent build – a 1979 Targa in need of full restoration – saw Design911 supply nearly everything. “The bloke doing the work had this huge stack of Design911 invoices. I stopped counting after a while!”

And like many Porsche owners, the classifieds still tempt him. “There’s always a 992 Touring winking at me… but then I look at the RS, at the photos, and I remember what made me fall in love with it. It’ll be staying a while longer.”

Closing Thoughts

Guy’s story is one of passion, purpose, and people. From sketching 911s in school to carving up corners in a GT3 RS, it’s clear this isn’t just a hobby – it’s a way of life. His philosophy? Drive it, share it, enjoy it.

And if you’re looking to build or maintain your own Porsche dream, whether it’s a track-ready 991 or a Targa from the ‘70s, Design911.co.uk has you covered with everything from OEM replacement parts to specialist upgrades and restoration gear.
