LAP911: A Porsche Workshop That Does Things Differently

There are plenty of places you can take a Porsche for a service. Shiny showrooms, smart coffee machines, glass-fronted workshops. But if you actually want to talk to the people fixing your car, and you want them to care as much as you do, then an independent garage is usually where you end up.

That’s where LAP911 comes in. It’s a small team – Luke, Jimmy and Chris, but between them they’ve got years inside Porsche main dealers and, more importantly, the passion to go with it.

Luke’s Move Away from the Dealer Network

Luke started out at Porsche OPC, the official dealer network. He learnt the trade there, no doubt about it. But as the years passed, he could see things changing. “It was heading in a direction I didn’t agree with,” he says. “I wanted to spend my time working with people who loved the cars, not just processing jobs.”

So he left and set up LAP911. That was less than three years ago. Fast forward to now and the business is about to move into a larger unit – more space, more ramps, and the chance to take on more of the cars they’re asked to look after.

What They Do Day to Day

The variety is huge. One corner of the workshop might have a Cayenne with failed timing chains. Next to it, a Boxster getting new coolant pipes. Over by the far wall, a GT3 being dialled in for a trackday.

The jobs range from the simple – oil changes, brake refreshes – to the heavy stuff like full suspension rebuilds or engine work. They also spend a lot of time advising owners on upgrades, whether that’s for peace of mind (IMS bearings) or to sharpen a car for track use.

Why They Stick with Design911

Parts supply is crucial for any independent. Luke and the team stick with Design911. “Every single part that went into that Boxster we rebuilt came from them,” Luke says. “The knowledge you get when you call up – Daryl, Josh, the rest of the team – is second to none.”

That Boxster story sums up what they do. The car cost the owner around £5,000. By the time the suspension, exhaust and other jobs were done, he’d spent another five grand. But he now has a car that feels new, not a tired 20-year-old roadster.

The parts list included:

  • A Dansk exhaust system for a bit of noise and character.

  • Bilstein dampers to sort the handling.

  • Meyle top mounts and bump stops to finish the suspension job properly.

For the customer, it meant peace of mind and a summer of driving without the nagging feeling that something was about to break.

Three Technicians, One Mindset

All three of the LAP911 team are Porsche-trained. Jimmy owns two cars himself – a Cayman 987 and a GT4. Chris brings the detail-obsessed side of the team, always chasing the perfect finish. Luke leads the way with years of experience and a very clear philosophy: be open, be honest, and put passion before polish.

That’s why customers are always welcome to walk into the workshop, have a look around, and see their car mid-repair. It’s about trust.

Inspections and Preventative Jobs

Plenty of customers bring cars in for inspections. Some before buying, some just after. The process is tailored. Older cars like the 996 or 986 need a deep dive in certain areas, while a newer 991 doesn’t usually require the same level of attention.

The IMS bearing is the classic example. Some owners haven’t heard of it. Others turn up already wanting it done. “It’s preventative,” Luke says. “If you do it, you get peace of mind. If you ignore it, you roll the dice.”

Track Setups and Their Own Toy

Performance setups are another part of the mix. The GT models are a common sight, often booked in for full wheel alignment or brake work ahead of a trackday.

The team even have their own track car. Nothing exotic – just a budget build – but it’s perfect for testing setups and, in Luke’s words, “a bit of team bonding.” It also shows customers that the guys actually drive hard themselves, not just talk about it.

Why Customers Keep Coming Back

The truth is, Porsche owners want two things: skill and passion. LAP911 has both. Add in their open-door approach and the strong link with Design911 for trusted parts, and you can see why word of mouth has travelled fast.

“They love the cars, and they love talking to the people who own them,” says one customer. “That makes all the difference.”

Final Word

In under three years, LAP911 has gone from an idea to a busy, trusted Porsche specialist. With a bigger workshop on the way, the future looks strong.

Independent garages like this are the lifeblood of Porsche ownership. They offer something main dealers can’t: a personal connection, complete transparency, and a genuine love for the cars. And with Design911 backing them up on parts supply, it’s a partnership that works for both the workshop and the owners who rely on it.
