USA Customs Charges & Import Fees

When ordering from Design911 and shipping to the United States, customs charges may apply. These fees are not included in the price of your order or the shipping cost shown at checkout.

Why am I being charged customs fees?

All goods entering the USA are subject to customs clearance. U.S. Customs and Border Protection (CBP) may apply:

  • Import duties
  • State taxes
  • Handling or brokerage fees charged by the courier (e.g., FedEx, UPS, DHL)

These charges are determined by U.S. customs regulations — not by Design911.

Do all orders get charged?

Not always. Many parcels clear without additional fees, but this is not guaranteed. Fees vary depending on:

  • Order value
  • Product category
  • The local customs office
  • Your state tax rules

Who is responsible for paying these charges?

The recipient (customer) is responsible for any import or customs charges applied upon delivery.
Design911 has no control over these costs, and they are not refundable by us if charged by U.S. Customs or the courier.

What happens if I refuse to pay the charges?

If customs fees are refused:

  • The parcel may be returned to us, or
  • The courier may abandon or destroy it (their policy varies)

If the item returns to us, we can only refund the product value minus any return shipping or handling fees charged by the courier.

How can I estimate potential customs charges?

You can check the U.S. Harmonized Tariff Schedule or contact your local customs office for guidance. Please note: these estimates are outside of our control and may vary.

Why do some customers not get charged while others do?

Every U.S. customs port processes parcels differently. Even similar orders may be handled differently based on workload, officer discretion, or courier routing. Unfortunately, this is normal and not something Design911 can influence.
