When they first moved into their current unit, it was a blank canvas. “There was no paint on the floor, no equipment—just four walls and four shutters,” Dan recalls. Today, it’s a fully equipped restoration facility. “We’ve got a £15,000 spinning jig and a Spanesi jig,” says Dan. “I’ve seen a lot of restorations done on axle stands. It may work, but in my head, nothing beats having a car perfectly supported while you work on it.” That commitment to doing things properly runs through everything they do.

What really sets Precision Panel Craft apart is their commitment to authenticity. “We use a lot of period-correct machinery,” Dan explains. “We’ve got 1960s folders because it’s easier to restore cars using the tools they were built with. We even use gas welding. It’s hard to get hold of now, but that’s how the cars were built, and that’s how we build them.”

From there, the team performs a dry-fit of every component before paint. “There’s nothing worse than having a freshly painted shell that’s had a £15–20k repaint and finding things don’t fit,” says Dan. “We fit everything—glass, latches, catches, rubbers, even suspension—before paint. When it goes into the booth, it’s exactly how it should be.”

Once the dry-fit is complete, the car is painted and reassembled in-house. Every detail is checked, every component fitted, until the car is ready to be enjoyed again.

This method takes longer, but it avoids the expensive mistakes that can come from rushing a restoration. As Dan puts it, “We’d rather do it once and do it right.”
