Porsche’s Ultimate Tribute to an Icon

The Porsche 911 Turbo has always been at the intersection of raw performance and timeless design. With the 50th anniversary of the iconic model, Porsche isn’t just paying lip service to history- it’s reinterpreting it for the modern era.

The result? The 911 Turbo 50 Years is a carefully designed homage limited to 1,974 units, each a nod to the year when the original Turbo changed the sports car landscape forever.

This isn’t just a car; it’s a rolling statement of five decades of relentless innovation and engineering skill.

Nodding to the Past with Modern Flair

The 911 Turbo 50 Years is more than a commemorative badge. It’s a meticulously crafted machine that embodies the spirit of its predecessors. The 911 Turbo redefined what a sports car could be when it was introduced in 1974.

It featured turbocharging technology from Porsche’s racing pedigree, setting new benchmarks for performance and usability. The anniversary model continues the tradition and is based on the last generation 911 Turbo S, a car that itself redefines the benchmarks for what a modern sports car could be.

Visually, the 911 Turbo 50 Years is a masterclass in blending old and new. The exterior features the Anthracite Grey on components that include the mirror base, rear apron, rear wing blade, and air intake trims.

The Anthracite Grey accents on the rear wing blade, rear apron, mirror base, and air intake trims further enhance the look. The homage to history is evident in the standard side vinyl graphics, which remind us of a Porsche 911 RSR Turbo’s livery from the 1973 Frankfurt Motor Show.

Step Inside to More History

The nostalgia continues on the interior, which is adorned with McKenzie tartan, a nod to the early 911 Turbo models. The iconic pattern graces the seat covers and door panels, complemented by Turbonite accents on the seat belts, controls, and decorative stitching.

The illuminated Turbo 50 logo on the door kick plates and the embroidered headrests further emphasize the car’s status. The attention to detail is designed to evoke the spirit of the 1970s while providing the comfort and technology expected in a modern Porsche.

The Heritage Design Package: A Deeper Dive Into Nostalgia

Enthusiasts lucky enough to get their hands on one of these can take them even further down memory lane with the optional Heritage Design Package. The package brings additional historic elements onto an already storied model.

The base colour of Aventurine Green Metallic is a delicate throwback to the classic hues of the past, while the White satin-finish graphics and lollipop with customisable numbers add a personalised touch that calls back to the motorsport liveries of the 70s.

The package also references Porsche’s racing pedigree, with the historic 1964 Porsche crest adorning the bonnet and wheel centre caps.

Inside, additional leather features and tartan elements, combined with the classic green dials in the instrument cluster and Sports Chrono clock, ensure that the Heritage Design Package offers more than just a cosmetic upgrade.

Performance Has Been The Heart of This Legend

Under the hood, the 911 Turbo 50 Years does not rely on nostalgia alone. It is powered by the same 3.7-liter boxer engine as the current 911 Turbo S, delivering 650 PS and 800 Newton meters of torque.

This powerplant, with its variable turbine geometry (VTG) twin turbocharging, ensures that you can do the 0-100 km/h sprint in just 2.7 seconds, with 200 km/h arriving in 8.9 seconds.

The car’s chassis and suspension components, including the 10 mm-lower Porsche Active Suspension Management (PASM) sports suspension and Porsche Traction Management (PTM) with Torque Vectoring Plus, ensure you can handle it well as it picks up speed.

The PCCS brake system, with its black-finished callipers, gives you all the stopping power you need to tame the forces put out by the powerplant.

An Exclusive Timepiece

For the true connoisseur, Porsche Design Timepieces has created a 911 Turbo 50 Years chronograph, available exclusively to owners of the anniversary model. This is more than a watch: it’s a piece of the car’s soul distilled into something you can wear.

In keeping with the 911 theme of precision and legacy, the watch is equipped with the COSC-certified Porsche Design WERK 01.200 movement and a flyback function.

Wearing it in the car is an even more striking sight, as it mirrors the vehicle’s design cues. It features a black dial with Turbonite accents and a black vehicle leather strap with matching stitching. Turning it over, you can look at the winding rotor through the transparent case back.

If that reminds you of the design of the 911 Turbo 50’s wheels, it’s because they meant for it to. The limited-edition number on the titanium corresponds with the number on the car, making the timepiece an inseparable companion to the 911 Turbo 50 Years.

A Collector’s Dream

For car enthusiasts, this is more than just a car; it’s a piece of automotive history. The limited production run ensures that this variant will go down as a coveted piece among many collectors’ garages. Combine the unique look with performance features and what you get is a highly sought-after model.

Each car will have the individual number integrated into the Turbo 50 badge on the dashboard fascia, constantly reminding anyone who sees it that they are in the presence of something special.

For those lucky enough to own one, the 911 Turbo 50 Years promises to be more than just a car; it promises to be a point in history that enthusiasts will remember for years to come.
