The Porsche 964 generation is perhaps the perfect balance between classic looks and modern performance when it comes to the 911 range. So it’s no real surprise that the 964 platforms have paved the way for some of the most interesting and innovative resto-mods out there.
But it’s also one of the best in the range when it comes to being a driver’s car. Having that air-cooled flat-six, singing behind you and the feel of the road at your fingertips through the wheel – while also being able to drive in comfort, having ABS, air conditioning and modern comforts that make the 964 just a bit easier to use.

But just because the Porsche 964 is already an incredibly well-sorted platform, doesn’t mean you can’t improve upon what’s already there!
So today Design911 is going to share some of the mods we think will help you transform your 964 into the perfect driving machine.
Let’s start with the easiest mod you can make…

Upgrading your Porsche 964’s wheels
Considering you’re currently reading an article about modifying your Porsche 964, there’s a good chance that you’re not too concerned about originality and would rather like to have your own personal touch added to your 964.
Well, changing up your choice of alloy wheels is a great way to add your own personal flavour to your 911 while also retaining a stylish look and (somewhat) affordable!
There are so many amazing choices you could choose from when it comes to wheel styles but we’re going to list a few below that we think you might like.
KT2 SPLIT RIM LOOK ALLOY WHEELS
If you want that iconic 964 turbo look with the Speedline style alloys but budgets don’t stretch to getting genuine two or three-piece alloys, these are an amazing substitute that gives you that brilliant split-rim look without the price – they don’t compromise on quality either!
You can get them here.

FUCHS ALLOY WHEELS
If it’s something a little more classic you’re looking for, you can’t go wrong with a set of Fuchs alloy wheels for any generation of classic 911. One of the best wheel designs ever made? Quite possibly…
You can get a set here.

FUCHS RSR STYLE ALLOY
These are essentially the same as above but beautifully polished with a mirror-like finish to them. Ideal if you’re looking to do a show build.
You can get those here.

A Porsche 964 Turbo front spoiler
Spoiler alert, the 964 turbos look very menacing with their lower front lip – but what’s stopping you from getting stuck in with your own car, regardless of if it’s a turbo or not? They’re lightweight due to being fiberglass and give you that little bit extra when it comes to downforce at higher speeds.
They’re well worth picking up if you’re going for an aggressive-looking car.

Backdating the look of your Porsche 964
If you’re looking for a more classic look, companies such as Dansk now provide brand-new panels that allow you to transform the look of your 964 and backdate it to the more classic 911 look. It is worth mentioning that this isn’t a bolt-on kit… in fact, not many exist on the market so you’ll either need to be handy on the tools yourself or take your 964 to a body shop for them to professionally modify your 964 for that iconic 911 visual.
But, if you’re attempting a resto-mod of your own, this might be the answer for you.

Targa roof upgrades for your 964
If you happen to have a 964 Targa rather than the Coupe and Cabriolet, there’s a really great upgrade you can do which converts the typically solid roof on the Targa into a glass sunroof.
Not only does this allow for incredible summer drives, it opens up the cabin to feel considerably more airy and roomy. Increasing visibility in some aspects too, allowing more natural light inside the car.

Adding a ducktail to your 964
The ducktail spoiler is arguably the most iconic spoiler you can get for a classic 911 and looks utterly fantastic when equipped to the majority of cars. The 964 is no exception to that and looks simply gorgeous with the ducktail boot lid.
Being made from Fiberglass means it’s also rather light and easy to apply to the car once it has a lick of paint on it.
If you want to apply this classic look to your 964, you can do so here.

Alternatively, there is a rather sneak upgrade you can have over the standard ducktail look if you want something a little more… bespoke.
You can also grab yourself a Singer DLS style rear ducktail boot lid which just adds a whole new dimension to the already classic look.
You can take a look here at the DLS boot lid.

Both of these duck tails look great and it’s entirely down to personal preference.
That’s it for this list of mods we think you’d like for your 964!
