Constant velocity (CV) joint kit by OE Match for selected Porsche 911, 965, 964, 993, Boxster 986 S and 996 applications. Supplied specifications state 28 wheel-side internal teeth and a 108 mm seal diameter.

The CV joint (Constant Velocity Joint) is located at each end of the axle assembly and is most often used on front wheel drive cars. A 2wd vehicle will have 2 axles with 4 CV joints and boots. A 4wd will typically have twice as many as the 2wd. The CV joint allows the wheels of the vehicle to turn while still being able to put power to the wheels.

Fits

  • Porsche 911 3.2L 84-89
  • Porsche 965 (964 TURBO)
  • Porsche 964 C2 INNER MAN / TIP
  • Porsche 993 C2 INNER MAN / TIP

What This Product Does

A constant velocity joint carries drive through the driveshaft while accommodating changes in angle as the suspension moves. This kit provides a replacement for a worn joint rather than a complete driveshaft assembly.

Functions

  • Transmits torque through the driveshaft connection.
  • Accommodates angular movement during suspension travel.
  • Maintains consistent rotational speed across the joint.

  • Wheel-side internal teeth: 28. Seal diameter: 108 mm.
  • 911 1984–86 diagram: CARRERA G15.72/73 and TURBO G30.36/37. For 1987–89, diagram quantities are 2 for CARRERA and 4 for TURBO, CARRERA M491; these are assembly quantities, not kit contents.
  • 964 diagram identification: CARRERA 2 M249CARRERA RS, quantity 2; TURBO, note -92, quantity 2. The 993 diagram records quantity 2.

Symptoms of Fault

Joint wear may cause clicking, acceleration-related vibration, excessive play or a knock as drive takes up. Escaped grease around a damaged boot also warrants inspection. Similar symptoms can arise from mounts or other drivetrain components, so confirm the cause before replacement.

Why Replacement Matters

Renewal addresses wear within the joint when the shaft remains serviceable. A split boot can allow lubricant loss and contamination; inspect the joint, shaft splines, boots and associated fixings together before deciding on the repair.

FAQs

Is a boot-only repair sufficient?
It may be suitable if inspection confirms that the joint remains lubricated, quiet and unworn. Existing noise or play requires further assessment.

Which lubricant is required?
Use CV-joint grease specified for the application. Confirm the kit contents and fitting requirements before starting work.

What should be checked alongside the joint?
Inspect driveshaft splines, boots, mounting hardware and powertrain mounts, particularly when investigating vibration.
