Located within the door hinge pivot assembly, the bush supports the hinge pin and provides the correct bearing surface as the door opens and closes. Over time, repeated door movement and the weight of the door can wear the original bushes, creating excessive clearance between the hinge pin and hinge.

Replacing worn hinge bushes helps restore smooth door movement, reduce unwanted play and maintain correct door alignment. This OE Match component is ideal for routine hinge refurbishment, correcting wear or restoring an older Porsche.

What This Product Does:
The door hinge bush provides a close-fitting surface between the hinge and hinge pin. It allows the hinge to pivot smoothly while keeping the door securely positioned relative to the body.

Its functions include:

  • Supporting the door hinge pin
  • Providing a smooth hinge pivot point
  • Controlling excessive movement within the hinge
  • Helping maintain correct door alignment
  • Supporting consistent panel gaps
  • Reducing hinge-related rattles and movement
  • Helping the door open and close smoothly
  • Reducing direct wear between hinge components

Because Porsche doors are relatively heavy, even a small amount of wear in the hinge bushes can become noticeable at the outer edge of the door.

Symptoms Of Wear Or Failure:
Door hinge bushes gradually wear through repeated opening and closing of the door. Common signs of worn bushes include:

  • Door dropping or sagging when opened
  • Excessive vertical movement when lifting the open door
  • Play or looseness at the door hinge
  • Door requiring lifting or extra force to close
  • Misaligned or uneven panel gaps
  • Door catching against the striker or bodywork
  • Clunking, clicking or rattling from the hinge area
  • Creaking or rough movement when opening or closing
  • Difficulty achieving correct door alignment
  • Increased wind or water noise caused by poor door positioning
  • Visible wear around the hinge pin and bush
  • Door movement when driving over uneven surfaces

Worn hinge pins can produce similar symptoms, so the pins and hinges should also be inspected when replacing the bushes.

Why Replacement Matters:

  • A worn door hinge bush allows additional movement between the hinge and hinge pin. Because the door places considerable load on the hinge assembly, this small amount of clearance can result in noticeable door sag and poor alignment.
  • Continued operation with worn bushes can place additional stress on the hinge pins, hinges, door latch and striker. The door may also need to be slammed or lifted to close correctly, increasing wear on surrounding components.
  • Poor door alignment can additionally affect weather sealing and panel gaps and, in severe cases, may allow the door edge to contact adjacent bodywork.
  • Replacing worn bushes restores the correct hinge pivot clearance, helping the door remain properly supported and allowing it to open and close smoothly. When significant wear is present, replacing the hinge pins and bushes together can provide a more complete hinge refurbishment.
