The factory Bosch Motronic DME calibration was designed
around the airflow characteristics of the original exhaust system. When SSI
heat exchangers, tubular manifolds or high-flow performance headers are
installed, the engine can move more air, but the original software cannot fully
optimise the revised exhaust flow. This purpose-developed chip recalibrates
ignition timing, fuel delivery and throttle response to help the 3.2-litre
flat-six make proper use of those modifications.
The result is a smoother idle, stronger low and mid-range
torque, sharper throttle response and noticeably improved acceleration from as
low as 1,500rpm. The familiar hesitation below 4,000rpm is significantly
reduced, giving the engine a broader, more responsive and more usable
