The Fabspeed Long Tube Race Headers are a competition-focused exhaust upgrade developed for the second-generation Porsche 987 Boxster and Cayman platform, including the Cayman R and Boxster Spyder.
Fits:
- Porsche Boxster 987 MKII 2.9L 2009-12
- Porsche Boxster S 987 MKII 3.4L 2009-12
- Porsche Cayman 2.9L 987C MKII 2009-12
- Porsche Cayman S / R 3.4L 987C MKII 2009-12
Designed for track, racing and closed-course applications, these headers replace the restrictive factory catalytic-converter-equipped exhaust manifolds with a freer-flowing equal-length header system engineered to improve exhaust scavenging, reduce backpressure and maximise the breathing capability of the naturally aspirated flat-six engine.
The system uses equal-length T304 stainless-steel primary tubes, CNC mandrel bending and high-velocity cast merge collectors inspired by Formula 1, IndyCar and NASCAR exhaust design principles.
Fabspeed developed the system specifically to improve power and torque throughout the RPM range while retaining direct compatibility with the standard rear muffler arrangement.
The headers can be connected to:
Standard Porsche 987.2 mufflers.
Porsche Sport Exhaust / PSE.
Compatible aftermarket mufflers designed around the original Porsche exhaust connection specification.
No cutting or welding is required.
Fabspeed currently lists performance gains of:
+21 HP
+12 lb-ft of torque
Actual results will vary according to vehicle specification, engine condition, calibration, fuel, environmental conditions and supporting modifications.
What This Product Does:
The Fabspeed Long Tube Race Headers replace the factory exhaust manifolds and catalytic-converter sections with a high-flow competition header arrangement.
They are designed to:
- Increase exhaust gas flow.
- Reduce exhaust restriction.
- Improve cylinder scavenging.
- Improve throttle response.
- Increase horsepower and torque potential.
- Support stronger high-RPM performance.
- Improve exhaust pulse balance between cylinders.
- Reduce restriction created by the original catalytic converters.
- Produce a more aggressive flat-six exhaust sound.
- Support additional engine and exhaust performance modifications.
Symptoms Of Wear Or Failure:
Headers operate in an extremely hot and vibration-intensive environment.
Possible signs of deterioration include:
- Ticking noises from the engine area.
- Blowing noises during acceleration.
- Exhaust leaks.
- Soot around flange joints.
- Cracked primary tubes.
- Cracked welds.
- Collector damage.
- Loose joints.
- Increased exhaust smell.
- Metallic rattling.
- Unexpected changes in exhaust tone.
- Reduced performance.
- Excessive heat near surrounding components.
Why Replacement Matters:
Replacing cracked, leaking or damaged headers helps restore:
- Correct exhaust sealing.
- Intended exhaust scavenging.
- Balanced exhaust pulse behaviour.
- Smooth gas flow.
- Safe containment of hot exhaust gases.
- Structural integrity.
- Consistent engine performance.
On a track-driven Porsche, exhaust components should be inspected regularly because sustained high temperature and vibration place considerably greater loads on the system than typical road driving.
