Diagram Ref No 1

A correctly functioning seat belt must extend and retract smoothly, remain securely anchored and provide the required locking action during sudden deceleration or an impact. If the original belt is frayed, damaged, slow to retract, jammed, failing to lock correctly or has been subjected to accident loading, it should be professionally inspected and replaced where required.

What This Product Does:
The front-right seat belt helps restrain the occupant in the right-hand front seat.

During normal use, the retractor allows the webbing to extend and retract as the occupant moves. When conditions require the belt to lock, the restraint system limits further belt movement to help keep the occupant securely positioned.

The seat belt helps:

  • Restrain the front-right occupant during sudden deceleration
  • Reduce uncontrolled forward movement during a collision
  • Keep the occupant correctly positioned in the seat
  • Provide secure restraint during emergency braking
  • Work alongside the vehicle's other occupant safety systems
  • Maintain the intended level of front-seat occupant protection

Because it is a primary safety component, reliable seat-belt operation is essential.

Symptoms Of Wear Or Failure:
Signs that the front-right seat belt may require inspection or replacement include:

  • Frayed webbing
  • Cuts or tears
  • Worn belt edges
  • Damaged stitching
  • Stretched or distorted webbing
  • Heat or chemical damage
  • Slow retraction
  • Weak retraction
  • Belt does not retract completely
  • Belt sticks or jams when extended
  • Belt cannot be pulled out normally
  • Retractor does not lock correctly
  • Retractor remains permanently locked
  • Twisted webbing
  • Unusual noises from the retractor
  • Loose or damaged mounting points
  • Damaged belt guides or associated hardware
  • Restraint-system warning light
  • Evidence of previous collision loading

Any suspected defect should be investigated promptly.

Why Replacement Matters:
A front seat belt is a safety-critical component.

Replacing a confirmed damaged or defective belt helps:

  • Restore reliable occupant restraint
  • Restore correct extension and retraction
  • Restore proper locking operation
  • Replace weakened or damaged webbing
  • Maintain secure seat-belt positioning
  • Correct accident-related restraint damage
  • Maintain the integrity of the vehicle's safety system

Unlike cosmetic interior components, a defective seat belt can directly affect occupant protection.
