Ignition HT Lead Set
Ignition HT Lead Set by OE Match for Porsche 964 Carrera 2, Carrera 4 and RS 3.6L or 3.8L models from 1989–94. This replacement set is intended for the air-cooled 3.6-litre ignition system.

Fits

  • Porsche 964 C2, C4, RS 1989 - 1994
  • Porsche 964 (911) C2 1989–93
  • Porsche 964 (911) C4 1989–93
  • Porsche 964 (911) RS 3.6L 1991–93
  • Porsche 964 (911) RS 3.8L 1991–93

What This Product Does

The HT leads carry high-voltage electrical energy from the ignition system to the spark plugs. Sound insulation, secure terminal connections and correct routing help each cylinder receive a consistent spark while limiting electrical leakage and interference.

Functions

  • Transfers high voltage to the spark plugs
  • Supports consistent ignition across the engine
  • Insulates the ignition circuit against electrical leakage
  • Connects the distributor system to the individual cylinders
  • Provides a matched replacement for aged ignition leads

Technical Details

  • Product type: complete ignition HT lead set
  • Engine capacity: 3.6L
  • Verified diagram applications include M64.01 and M64.02 Carrera 2/4 engines and the M64.03 Carrera RS engine
  • The associated ignition assembly uses individually routed cylinder leads and spark plug connectors

Symptoms of Fault

  • Misfires under acceleration or engine load
  • Uneven or rough idle
  • Hard starting when hot or cold
  • Hesitation during acceleration
  • Misfires that become more noticeable in damp conditions
  • Visible cracks, hardening or damage to the lead insulation
  • Arcing marks or corrosion around the terminals and boots
  • Increased fuel consumption caused by incomplete combustion

Why Replacement Matters

Heat, vibration and age can raise conductor resistance or weaken the insulation surrounding an ignition lead. This may allow the spark to leak before it reaches the plug, producing intermittent misfires and poor running. Replacing aged leads as a set helps maintain consistent electrical characteristics across the cylinders. Inspect the spark plugs, distributor caps, rotor arms, connectors and lead routing during installation so that other worn ignition components are not overlooked.

Installation Note

Cable holders and fan cover need to be reused from existing cables. Alternatively they are available to order separately.

FAQs

  • Can one damaged lead cause a single-cylinder misfire?
Yes. One lead may fail before the others, although leads of the same age are commonly renewed together.
  • Can ignition leads be checked with a multimeter?
Resistance testing can identify some internal faults, but it may not reveal insulation that breaks down only under high voltage, heat or moisture.
  • Should other ignition parts be inspected?
Yes. Check the spark plugs, distributor caps, rotor arms, connectors and cable supports for wear, corrosion or contamination.
