The IWIS Oil Pump Drive Chain is a replacement internal engine drive chain for compatible Porsche applications. Its purpose is to transmit mechanical drive to the engine oil pump, allowing the pump to circulate lubricating oil throughout the engine while it is running.
Fits:
- Porsche 955 Cayenne S 4.5L V8 2003-06
- Porsche 955 Cayenne Turbo 4.5L 2003-06
Diagram Ref No 7
Reliable operation of the oil pump drive is critical to engine durability. If the chain becomes excessively worn, elongated, loose or damaged, oil pump operation can be compromised. Loss of effective oil circulation or oil pressure can rapidly cause serious damage to bearings, camshafts, crankshaft surfaces and other internal engine components.
What This Product Does:
The oil pump drive chain transfers rotational movement from the engine's drive system to the oil pump.
Once driven, the oil pump draws engine oil from the sump and circulates it through the lubrication system to critical internal components.
The drive chain therefore helps support:
- Reliable oil pump operation
- Engine oil circulation
- Correct lubrication of internal components
- Protection of bearings and rotating assemblies
- Lubrication of timing and valvetrain components
- Heat removal from lubricated surfaces
- Reliable engine operation
Although the chain does not create oil pressure itself, it provides the mechanical drive required for the oil pump to operate.
Symptoms Of Wear Or Failure:
Oil pump drive chains are designed for extended service life, but they can deteriorate through mechanical wear, lubrication problems or failure of associated components.
Possible symptoms include:
- Rattling or mechanical noise from the chain area
- Excessive chain slack
- Chain elongation
- Visible wear or damage during engine inspection
- Worn chain links
- Abnormal wear on associated sprockets
- Low oil-pressure warning
- Oil-pressure related diagnostic faults
- Abnormal engine noise associated with inadequate lubrication
- Metal debris found in the engine oil or filter
Some chain problems may produce few obvious symptoms before becoming serious, making careful inspection important whenever the relevant area of the engine is accessible.
Why Replacement Matters:
The oil pump drive chain performs a critical role in maintaining engine lubrication.
Replacing a confirmed worn or damaged IWIS Oil Pump Drive Chain helps:
- Restore reliable mechanical drive to the oil pump
- Maintain dependable oil circulation
- Reduce excessive chain movement
- Correct problems associated with chain elongation
- Protect associated sprockets and drive components
- Support reliable engine lubrication
- Reduce the risk of oil pump drive failure
- Help protect expensive internal engine components
Because lubrication is essential whenever the engine is operating, deterioration of the oil pump drive should be addressed promptly.
