Timing Chain.
The IWIS Timing Chain is a replacement internal engine timing component for compatible Porsche applications. It forms part of the engine's mechanical timing drive, transmitting rotational movement between associated timing components and helping maintain the precise synchronisation required for reliable engine operation.

Fits:
  • Porsche 958 Cayenne V6 3.0L Diesel (245Hp) 2010-17
  • Porsche 970.1 Panamera Diesel V6 3.0L 2011-13
  • Porsche 970.2 Panamera Diesel V6 3.0L (250Hp) 2014-16
  • Porsche 95B.1 Macan S Diesel 3.0L V6 (258Bhp) 2014-18

Timing chains operate continuously whenever the engine is running. Although engineered for durability and long service life, gradual wear can occur at the chain links, pins and contact surfaces. Wear may also develop in associated guides, tensioners and sprockets.

A worn, elongated or damaged timing chain can develop excessive slack, create abnormal mechanical noise and affect timing accuracy. If deterioration becomes severe enough for the chain to jump or fail, significant internal engine damage may result.

What This Product Does:
The timing chain transfers rotational movement through the engine's timing system while maintaining the required mechanical relationship between associated components.

Within the timing system, precise synchronisation is essential to ensure that internal engine components operate at the correct point in the combustion cycle.

The timing chain helps support:

  • Accurate engine timing
  • Reliable mechanical synchronisation
  • Correct operation of associated timing components
  • Consistent engine performance
  • Smooth engine operation
  • Stable combustion
  • Reliable operation throughout the engine-speed range

The chain must remain correctly tensioned and properly engaged with its sprockets to maintain accurate timing.

Symptoms Of Wear Or Failure:
Possible symptoms of timing-chain or associated timing-system deterioration include:

  • Metallic rattling from the timing-chain area
  • Clattering or chain noise
  • Rattle during cold start
  • Excessive chain slack
  • Timing-chain elongation
  • Abnormal noise at idle
  • Noise that changes with engine speed
  • Rough or irregular engine operation
  • Unstable idleDifficult starting
  • Reduced engine performance
  • Engine warning light
  • Timing-related diagnostic fault codes
  • Crankshaft/camshaft correlation faults where applicable
  • Misfires or irregular combustion
  • Visible chain wear during inspection
  • Worn or damaged chain guides
  • Abnormal sprocket wear
  • Metal or plastic debris in the engine oil or filter

These symptoms do not automatically mean the chain itself has failed. Similar problems can result from worn guides, defective tensioners, damaged sprockets, camshaft-control components or lubrication issues.

Why Replacement Matters:
The timing chain is a critical internal engine component.

Replacing a confirmed worn, elongated or damaged IWIS Timing Chain can help:

  • Restore reliable timing-system operation
  • Maintain accurate mechanical synchronisation
  • Reduce excessive chain slack
  • Reduce abnormal timing-chain noise
  • Restore reliable chain engagement
  • Protect associated guides and sprockets
  • Reduce the risk of timing deviation
  • Reduce the risk of the chain jumping
  • Support smooth engine operation
  • Protect expensive internal engine components

Once excessive timing-chain wear has been confirmed, continued operation can increase the possibility of more serious and expensive engine damage.
