Is Your 1987 Carrera a 24-Pin or 28-Pin Car?

The 1987 model year was a transition period, with Porsche changing from a 24-pin DME chip to a 28-pin version during production.

The only reliable way to identify which chip your car requires is to remove the DME control unit and count the number of pins on the existing chip. The original chip is a black rectangular EPROM fitted with a silver factory foil label displaying a number similar to 1267355xxx.

If your DME contains a 24-pin EPROM, this is the correct upgrade chip for your vehicle.
If your car has a 28-pin chip, you'll require the corresponding 28-pin OE Match version instead.
