The sensor is installed in conjunction with the rear brake pad assembly and connected to the vehicle's electrical monitoring circuit. As the brake pad friction material wears down, the sensor eventually reaches the brake disc. Once the sensor is worn through, the circuit changes and the vehicle can display a brake pad wear warning.
