What This Part Does
The screen strains larger particles from oil passing through it. It provides coarse screening and should not be confused with a fine oil filter or treated as a remedy for internal engine wear.
Functions
- Intercepts larger debris in the sump oil.
- Allows oil to pass through the screening surface.
- Provides a replaceable strainer within the crankcase lubrication assembly.
Where It Fits on the Car
The strainer is fitted in the sump area at the underside of the engine crankcase, above the removable sump cover. Compare the existing component and its opening before installation.
Why Replace This Part?
A damaged screening surface may no longer retain debris as intended, while persistent contamination can obstruct its openings. Replace an unserviceable strainer during maintenance or rebuilding, and investigate the source of any metallic particles rather than relying on replacement alone.
When to Replace This Part?
- When inspection reveals tears, holes or loose screening material.
- If corrosion or distortion prevents correct seating.
- When deposits cannot be removed adequately during cleaning.
- During an engine rebuild if the existing screen is damaged or unsuitable for reuse.
