Electric sunroof clutch
This Sunroof Clutch is an OE-style drive coupling component designed for the electric sunroof mechanism on Porsche 911, 964, and 993 models. It connects the sunroof motor to the transmission drive assembly, allowing smooth and controlled operation of the sliding roof system. Installed between the electric sunroof motor and the sunroof gearbox/transmission mechanism, the clutch acts as a flexible coupling that absorbs vibration and compensates for minor driveline movement within the roof mechanism. This helps ensure quiet, smooth, and controlled opening and closing of the sunroof panel.

Fits:
Porsche 911 1974 - 1989
Porsche 964 1989 - 1994
Porsche 993 1994 - 1998

Diagram ref no 29

The sunroof clutch transfers drive from the electric sunroof motor to the roof transmission mechanism while absorbing vibration and driveline shock. It enables smooth and reliable opening and closing of the electric sunroof system.

Function
Connects sunroof motor to transmission assembly
Transfers rotational drive to the sunroof mechanism
 Absorbs vibration and driveline movement
Helps ensure smooth and quiet sunroof operation
Protects motor and gearbox from excessive shock load

The original sunroof clutch is subjected to constant torsional load, vibration, and heat within the roof mechanism. Over time, the rubber coupling material can deteriorate, resulting in excessive play, slipping, noisy operation, or sunroof drive failure. Replacing a worn clutch restores reliable roof movement and helps prevent unnecessary stress on the sunroof motor and gearbox assembly.

When to replace
Sunroof slips or stops moving intermittently
Clicking or clunking noises from roof mechanism
Excessive play within sunroof drive assembly
  Cracked or deteriorated rubber coupling
During sunroof motor or gearbox servicing
Preventative maintenance on ageing roof systems
