Courtesy lamp switch cover for door.
Rubber cover/cover for the door contact switch (night light or door lock switch) used in classic Porsche 911, 964, and 993 models. Protects the switch underneath from moisture, dirt, and wear while maintaining the correct appearance and fitment of the original equipment. Manufactured to Porsche specifications.

Fits:
Porsche 911 1965 - 1989
Porsche 964 1990 - 1994
Porsche 993 1994 - 1997

Diagram ref no 10

Position on Vehicle: Mounted over the door-contact switch (courtesy-lamp switch) at the door frame or body edge, covering the exposed switch mechanism.

• Applications: Ideal when the original rubber cap has cracked, gone missing, faded or is no longer sealing the switch properly - preserving correct function of door-open lamp circuit and maintaining clean appearance.

Although small, this rubber cap plays a key role in protecting the door-contact switch from moisture and contaminants, which ensures the courtesy-lamp, door-ajar indicator and electrical circuit remain reliable. A degraded or missing cap can allow water ingress, leading to corrosion of the switch, erratic lamp behaviour or eventual failure. Installing a correct replacement ensures dust-free operation, preserves your wiring and maintains the exact fit and finish Porsche intended.

When and why to replace:
The rubber cap is cracked, swollen, melted, missing or no longer seals the switch properly.
You notice malfunctioning door-ajar lights, erratic courtesy-lamp behaviour or corrosion at the switch.
During door trim removal or restoration when access is already provided.

A properly functioning headlamp seal is essential for maintaining headlight performance and preserving the condition of expensive headlamp assemblies. Over time, the original seal can harden, shrink, crack or lose its sealing effectiveness, allowing moisture to enter the housing and potentially damage internal components.

Manufactured to OE Match standards, this replacement seal restores the correct fit and protection originally intended by Porsche.

What Does the Headlamp Lens Seal Do?

The headlamp lens seal sits between the glass lens and headlamp housing.

Its primary functions include:

  • Preventing water ingress
  • Protecting internal headlamp components
  • Reducing condensation inside the headlight
  • Helping preserve reflector condition
  • Preventing dirt and debris contamination
  • Maintaining lighting performance
  • Supporting long-term headlamp durability

This simple component plays a crucial role in protecting the entire headlamp assembly.

Why Do Headlamp Lens Seals Fail?

Headlamp seals are constantly exposed to environmental conditions.

Common causes of failure include:

  • Age-related rubber deterioration
  • UV exposure
  • Heat cycling
  • Moisture exposure
  • Hardening and shrinkage
  • Damage during headlamp servicing
  • Long-term environmental wear
  • Previous incorrect installation

As the seal deteriorates, its ability to keep moisture out of the headlamp housing is reduced.

Symptoms of a Failing Headlamp Seal

Common warning signs include:

  • Condensation inside the headlamp lens
  • Water droplets inside the housing
  • Fogging of the glass lens
  • Dirt contamination within the headlamp
  • Visible cracking or deterioration of the seal
  • Corrosion developing on internal components
  • Reduced headlight performance
  • Moisture-related reflector damage

These symptoms often indicate that the seal has lost its effectiveness and should be replaced.

When Should the Seal Be Replaced?

Replacement is recommended when:

  • Condensation is visible inside the headlamp
  • Water ingress has occurred
  • The headlamp is being restored
  • The lens is being removed for refurbishment
  • The original seal shows signs of ageing
  • Internal reflector work is being carried out
  • Completing a restoration project
  • Performing preventative maintenance

Many Porsche restorers replace these seals whenever headlamp assemblies are disassembled.

Why Replacement Matters

A damaged seal can allow moisture to compromise the entire headlamp assembly.

Benefits of replacement include:

  • Improved weather protection
  • Reduced condensation
  • Better lighting performance
  • Protection of reflectors and bulbs
  • Enhanced reliability Improved appearance
  • Preservation of valuable headlamp components
  • Restoration of factory sealing standards

Replacing the seal is a cost-effective way to protect an expensive headlamp assembly.

As one of the most visible sealing components on the front of the vehicle, the headlamp seal not only enhances the appearance of the iconic Porsche front-end design but also helps protect valuable electrical and bodywork components from moisture and contamination.

Manufactured to OE Match specifications, this replacement seal delivers the correct profile, flexibility and fitment for maintenance, repair and concours-level restoration projects.

What Does the Headlamp Seal Do?

The headlamp seal is positioned around the outer edge of the headlight assembly where it meets the front wing.

Its primary functions include:

  • Providing a weather-resistant seal
  • Preventing water ingress behind the headlamp
  • Protecting electrical components
  • Reducing dirt and debris accumulation
  • Minimising vibration between components
  • Preserving paintwork around the headlamp aperture
  • Creating a neat factory-finished appearance

A properly fitted seal helps maintain both the functionality and appearance of the headlamp assembly.

Why Do Headlamp Seals Fail?

Headlamp seals are continuously exposed to harsh environmental conditions.

Common causes of deterioration include:

  • UV exposure
  • Age-related hardening
  • Heat cycling
  • Ozone damage
  • Moisture exposure
  • Road salt contamination
  • Compression fatigue
  • General weathering

Over time, the rubber can lose flexibility, causing it to crack, shrink or distort.

Symptoms of a Worn Headlamp Seal

Common signs that the seal requires replacement include:

  • Cracked or split rubber
  • Shrinking around the headlamp assembly
  • Gaps between the headlamp and wing
  • Water ingress around the headlight unit
  • Loose or poorly fitting seal
  • Perished appearance
  • Dirt accumulation behind the headlamp
  • Deteriorated exterior trim finish

These issues can affect both the appearance and protection of the front lighting system.

When Should the Headlamp Seal Be Replaced?

Replacement is recommended when:

  • The seal has become cracked or brittle
  • Water ingress is evident
  • The headlamp assembly is being removed
  • Front-end restoration work is being undertaken
  • Repainting the vehicle
  • Refurbishing exterior trim
  • Completing a concours restoration
  • Replacing damaged headlamp components

Many Porsche specialists replace headlamp seals during restoration projects to ensure a factory-quality finish.

Why Replacement Matters

Replacing ageing headlamp seals offers several important benefits:

  • Improved weather protection
  • Reduced risk of corrosion
  • Protection for electrical components
  • Better headlamp fitment
  • Enhanced exterior appearance
  • Factory-correct detailing
  • Improved restoration quality
  • Long-term durability

Fresh seals help restore the clean and precise styling that defines the classic Porsche 911 and 964.

When should you review or replace your Porsche light seals?

Checking light seals regularly helps you spot wear, damage or age-related deterioration before it affects comfort, refinement or leads to more expensive repairs later on.

  • Existing parts are worn, cracked, scuffed, faded, corroded or missing
  • You notice looseness, vibration or an untidy appearance around the area they sit in
  • You have had related work carried out and want everything to look and feel consistent
  • You want the car to feel smarter and better cared for in daily use or before resale

If any of these apply, it is a good time to review your light seals and replace anything that is past its best so your Porsche stays dependable and enjoyable to drive.
