These OE direct-fit brake wear sensor integrates seamlessly with your Porsche's electronic braking system, ensuring accurate wear monitoring and helping prevent unnecessary brake disc damage caused by excessively worn brake pads.

What Does the Brake Pad Wear Sensor Do?

The brake pad wear sensor is an important safety component that monitors the thickness of the front brake pads. As the friction material wears down, the sensor eventually contacts the brake disc, completing an electrical circuit that activates the brake wear warning light on the dashboard.

Its primary functions include:

  • Monitoring front brake pad wear.
  • Activating the dashboard brake warning light.
  • Preventing excessive brake pad wear.
  • Helping protect the brake discs from damage.
  • Supporting scheduled brake maintenance.
  • Improving overall braking safety.

The sensor provides an early warning, allowing brake pads to be replaced before braking performance is compromised.

Why Do Brake Pad Wear Sensors Fail?

Brake wear sensors are consumable components and are designed to be replaced during brake servicing. Common reasons for failure include:

  • Normal activation once the brake pads reach their wear limit.
  • Heat generated by the braking system.
  • Damage during brake pad removal.
  • Road debris and moisture.
  • Corrosion of the electrical contacts.
  • Wiring damage caused by age or movement.
  • General wear after years of service.

Once activated, the sensor cannot normally be reused and should always be replaced with new brake pads.

When Should the Brake Pad Wear Sensor Be Replaced?

Replacement is recommended whenever:

  • The brake wear warning light is illuminated.
  • New front brake pads are installed.
  • The sensor has contacted the brake disc.
  • The wiring has become damaged.
  • Corrosion affects the electrical connector.
  • During routine brake servicing.
  • As part of a complete front brake overhaul.

Replacing the sensor at the same time as the brake pads ensures accurate future wear monitoring and avoids unnecessary labour costs.

Functions

  • Monitors rear brake pad wear
  • Triggers the brake pad warning system when pads are worn
  • Helps prevent excessive brake pad wear
  • Protects brake discs from damage caused by worn-out pads
  • Supports safe and timely brake maintenance
  • Fits rear brake caliper applications

Why Replace This Part?
Brake pad wear sensors are normally replaced when new brake pads are fitted, as the old sensor may be worn, brittle, damaged, or triggered. A faulty or damaged sensor can cause false brake warnings or fail to alert the driver when the pads are worn. Replacing the sensor during rear brake service helps restore correct warning system operation and supports braking safety.

When to Replace This Part
  • Rear brake pads are being replaced
  • The brake pad wear warning light is displayed
  • The sensor wire is worn, cut, brittle, or damaged
  • The sensor has contacted the brake disc
  • Brake warning faults remain after pad replacement
  • Rear brake calipers or pads have been removed for service
  • As part of routine rear brake maintenance

Where it fits on the car
This sensor fits on the rear brake caliper / rear brake pad assembly. It is used in the rear braking system to monitor pad wear and connect the brake pad wear circuit to the vehicle’s warning system.

About Brake Pad Wear Sensors

Porsche Brake Pad Anti-Wear Sensors | Design911 Precision Components for Safety, Monitoring & Maintenance

Brake pad anti-wear sensors play a vital role in your Porsche’s braking system by monitoring pad thickness and alerting you when replacement is needed. By providing real-time data, these sensors help prevent excessive wear, protect brake discs, and maintain braking safety. Replacing worn or damaged sensors ensures your Porsche’s onboard systems can accurately detect pad wear — preserving both performance and peace of mind.

At Design911, we supply a comprehensive range of brake pad anti-wear sensors designed for precise fitment and dependable performance. Manufactured using high-grade materials and advanced sensor technology, our components ensure accurate readings under all driving conditions. Ideal for routine maintenance, restoration, or brake system upgrades, these sensors help your Porsche maintain its legendary braking precision.

What Do Brake Pad Anti-Wear Sensors Do?

Brake pad wear sensors are an essential electronic component that monitor the condition of your brake pads and alert the driver when they need replacement.

Core Functions:
• Continuously monitor brake pad thickness.
• Trigger dashboard warning lights when pads reach the wear limit.
• Protect brake discs from damage caused by worn pads.
• Support preventative maintenance and consistent braking performance.
• Ensure optimal braking efficiency and driver safety.

Accurate brake pad sensors allow you to maintain Porsche’s high standards of safety, performance, and responsiveness.

Why Do Brake Pad Anti-Wear Sensors Fail or Degrade?

Because they operate in extreme environments near the wheels and brakes, wear sensors are exposed to heat, friction, and contamination, which can cause malfunction or damage over time.

Common Causes of Failure Include:
• Melting or cracking due to high brake temperatures.
• Corrosion or electrical failure from water and road salt.
• Cable wear or fraying caused by vibration or debris.
• Poor connections or sensor dislodgement during servicing.
• Age-related degradation of wiring or insulation.

When a sensor fails, the system may provide false warnings or fail to detect worn pads, increasing the risk of brake system damage or reduced safety.

Why Replace or Upgrade Your Porsche Brake Pad Anti-Wear Sensors?

Replacing faulty or aged sensors ensures your Porsche’s braking system continues to deliver accurate monitoring and performance reliability. Design911’s precision-engineered sensors are crafted for long-term durability and compatibility across Porsche models.

Key Benefits:
• Restores accurate brake pad wear monitoring.
• Prevents unnecessary pad or disc wear.
• Heat- and moisture-resistant design for long-lasting reliability.
• Plug-and-play fitment for easy installation.
• Engineered for exact Porsche compatibility.
• Ideal for maintenance, upgrades, or complete brake servicing.

Design911’s Porsche brake pad anti-wear sensors ensure consistent safety alerts and reliable performance — maintaining the precision and quality expected of every Porsche braking system.

Highlights

• Premium Porsche brake pad wear sensors for accurate monitoring.
• Designed to withstand extreme heat and vibration.
• Ensures timely replacement of brake pads for safety.
• Protects discs and braking components from excessive wear.
