Fabspeed XperTune Performance Software ECU Upgrade.

The Fabspeed XperTune Performance Software is a custom ECU calibration developed for the Porsche 996 GT2 3.6L, 2001–2005. Designed to optimise the factory engine-management strategy, the software recalibrates key parameters such as fuelling, sensor inputs and boost control to improve horsepower, torque, throttle response and overall drivability.

Fits:

  • Porsche 996 GT2 2001-05

Rather than requiring the vehicle's ECU to be removed and sent away for bench flashing, the XperTune system uses a supplied handheld programming device connected through the vehicle's OBD-II port. The original ECU data is read from the vehicle and used by Fabspeed to create a calibration matched to the vehicle's specification and modifications.

Fabspeed publishes output figures of 505 hp and 502 lb-ft compared with its quoted stock figures of 450 hp and 457 lb-ft, representing claimed gains of approximately 55 hp and 45 lb-ft. Actual results can vary according to vehicle condition, fuel quality, modifications and operating conditions.

What This Product Does:

  • Reprograms the engine ECU with a performance-oriented calibration.
  • Optimises engine-management parameters for increased performance.
  • Adjusts fuelling strategies to suit the engine and vehicle specification.
  • Optimises boost-pressure control where applicable.
  • Improves throttle response and engine drivability.
  • Supports increased horsepower and torque.
  • Allows the calibration to be tailored to existing vehicle modifications.
  • Removes the need to physically remove and ship the ECU for tuning.
  • Allows the factory calibration to be restored using the supplied handheld device.
  • Provides a reusable programming method for switching between the original and Fabspeed calibration on the same vehicle.

The tune is created using the original ECU file together with information about the vehicle and any installed performance modifications.

When XperTune Should Be Considered:
This software may be appropriate when:

  • Additional horsepower and torque are desired.
  • The vehicle remains mechanically healthy but improved performance is required.
  • Performance exhaust components have been installed.
  • Intake or intercooler upgrades have been fitted.
  • The ECU needs to be calibrated around existing modifications.
  • Improved throttle response is desired.
  • The owner wants an OBD-II flashing solution without removing the ECU.
  • The ability to return the vehicle to its original calibration is desirable.

How The Tuning Process Works:
The supplied handheld programmer connects to the Porsche through the OBD-II diagnostic port.

The process involves:

  • Reading the factory ECU data using the handheld programmer.
  • Connecting the handheld device to a Windows PC.
  • Supplying the original ECU data and vehicle specification to Fabspeed.
  • Fabspeed creating a calibration based on the supplied vehicle information.
  • Loading the custom tune onto the handheld programmer.
  • Flashing the new calibration into the vehicle ECU through the OBD-II port.

The original calibration remains available so the ECU can later be returned to stock using the handheld device.

About ECU Re-Mapping DIY

Porsche DIY ECU Re-Mapping - Home Engine Tuning & Performance Upgrades

DIY ECU Re-Mapping allows Porsche owners to recalibrate engine management software to optimise performance, drivability, and efficiency. By adjusting key parameters such as fuel delivery, ignition timing, throttle response, and torque limits, ECU re-mapping unlocks performance potential that is often restricted in factory calibration.

Available from Design911, DIY ECU re-mapping solutions provide a controlled and cost-effective way to enhance engine performance at home, making them ideal for enthusiasts running mild modifications or seeking improved throttle response and power delivery.

What Does ECU Re-Mapping Do?

ECU re-mapping modifies the engine control unit’s software to improve how the engine performs.

Core Functions:

  • Optimise fuel and ignition maps.
  • Improve throttle response and torque delivery.
  • Remove conservative factory power limitations.
  • Adapt engine behaviour to performance upgrades.
  • Enhance drivability and efficiency.

A properly calibrated ECU ensures the engine runs safely and efficiently under all conditions.

Why Do Factory ECU Calibrations Fall Short?

Factory ECU maps are designed to meet global regulations and wide operating conditions. Limitations and issues can include:

  • Conservative tuning for emissions and fuel quality.
  • Restricted throttle response and torque output.
  • Lack of optimisation for aftermarket upgrades.
  • Reduced performance consistency in spirited driving.
  • Inflexibility for enthusiast or track-focused use.

These constraints can prevent the engine from delivering its full performance potential.

Why Upgrade to a DIY ECU Re-Mapping Solution?

DIY ECU re-mapping tools offer controlled access to engine optimisation.

Upgrade Benefits:

  • Noticeable gains in power and torque.
  • Sharper throttle response and improved drivability.
  • Ability to tailor mapping to vehicle setup.
  • Cost-effective alternative to workshop tuning.
  • Reversible and user-controlled calibration changes.

Upgrading to ECU re-mapping is one of the most effective ways to improve performance without mechanical modification.
