Product Information
Fabspeed 70mm Supersport X- Pipe Exhaust System.

The Fabspeed 70mm Supersport X-Pipe Exhaust System is a high-performance exhaust upgrade designed specifically for the 2001–2005 Porsche 996 GT2.

Fits:

  • Porsche 996 GT2 2001-05

Engineered to improve exhaust gas flow and reduce restriction compared with the original exhaust system, the 70mm X-pipe configuration provides a freer-flowing route for gases leaving the twin-turbocharged engine. The system is designed to produce a stronger sports-car exhaust note while supporting improved throttle and turbocharger response.

The system incorporates 200-cell HJS Sport catalytic converters and is manufactured from 14–16 gauge CNC mandrel-bent T304L stainless steel for durability, corrosion resistance and efficient exhaust flow.

Fabspeed reports gains of approximately 29 wheel horsepower and 39 ft-lb of torque, although actual results will vary depending on vehicle condition, modifications, fuel and operating conditions.

What This Product Does:
The exhaust system carries combustion gases away from the turbochargers and engine while controlling exhaust flow, sound and emissions.

On a high-performance turbocharged engine such as the Porsche 996 GT2, reducing unnecessary restriction downstream of the turbochargers can help exhaust gases leave the system more efficiently.

The Fabspeed Supersport X-Pipe is designed to:

  • Improve exhaust gas flow
  • Reduce post-turbo exhaust restriction
  • Support improved horsepower and torque
  • Help reduce turbo lag
  • Improve throttle and engine response
  • Produce a sportier and more aggressive exhaust note
  • Provide high-flow catalytic converter performance
  • Improve long-term corrosion resistance

The X-pipe arrangement also combines exhaust flow from both sides of the engine, contributing to the system's distinctive sound and freer-flowing characteristics.

Symptoms Of Wear Or Failure:
The original exhaust system on a Porsche 996 GT2 is now potentially more than two decades old. Repeated heat cycles, vibration, condensation and road exposure can gradually deteriorate exhaust components.

Common symptoms include:

  • Rust or corrosion on exhaust pipework
  • Cracks around welds or joints
  • Exhaust blowing, ticking or hissing noises
  • Black soot deposits around leaking connections
  • Loose or damaged exhaust clamps
  • Rattling from silencers or catalytic converters
  • Metallic noises from broken catalyst material
  • Exhaust fumes around the rear of the vehicle
  • Increased or irregular exhaust noise
  • Reduced throttle response
  • Increased turbo lag
  • Noticeable loss of engine performance
  • Check Engine Light associated with catalyst efficiency
  • Restricted exhaust flow
  • Sulphur-like or unusual exhaust smells
  • Damaged or deformed exhaust pipework

A deteriorating catalytic converter can also break down internally. The substrate may become damaged, loose or partially blocked, potentially restricting exhaust flow.

Why Replacement Matters:
A damaged or restrictive exhaust can affect more than sound.

Exhaust leaks allow hot gases to escape before reaching the intended outlets and can expose nearby components to unnecessary heat. Cracked joints and corroded pipework can also worsen over time until sections of the exhaust become loose or fail.

A damaged or partially blocked catalytic converter can create significant exhaust restriction.

This is particularly relevant to the twin-turbocharged 996 GT2, where efficient exhaust flow downstream of the turbochargers contributes to responsive turbo operation. Excessive restriction can work against efficient gas evacuation and negatively affect engine response.

Replacing worn factory components helps restore:

  • A secure and leak-free exhaust route
  • Efficient exhaust gas evacuation
  • Consistent turbocharger response
  • Correct exhaust outlet operation
  • Reduced risk of further corrosion-related failure

For owners upgrading a healthy standard exhaust, the Fabspeed system provides the additional benefits of increased flow, a stronger exhaust note and increased performance potential.

Fabspeed Muffler Bypass Pipes.

The Fabspeed Muffler Bypass Pipes are a performance-focused exhaust upgrade designed for compatible Porsche 996 Turbo, X50 and GT2 applications.

Fits:

  • Porsche 996 TURBO 2000-05
  • Porsche 996 GT2 2001-05

These straight-through pipes replace the Fabspeed Maxflo rear mufflers, creating a much more direct exhaust path from the Fabspeed Sport Catalytic Converters to the exhaust tips. Removing the mufflers substantially increases exhaust volume and gives the 996 Turbo a raw, aggressive motorsport-inspired sound.

The system also removes a considerable amount of rear exhaust weight. Fabspeed states that this configuration saves approximately 50 lb compared with the standard 996 Turbo exhaust system.

These bypass pipes are specifically designed as part of the Fabspeed modular exhaust system. Existing Fabspeed Sport Catalytic Converters are required, and the pipes will not directly fit the original Porsche exhaust or other aftermarket 996 Turbo systems.

What This Product Does:
A conventional rear muffler reduces exhaust noise by forcing exhaust gases through internal chambers, perforated tubes or sound-absorbing structures.

The Fabspeed Muffler Bypass Pipes eliminate the rear mufflers and provide a much more direct path for exhaust gases to travel towards the tailpipes.

Their primary functions and benefits include:

  • Eliminating the Fabspeed Maxflo rear mufflers
  • Creating a freer and more direct exhaust route
  • Producing a considerably louder and more aggressive exhaust note
  • Reducing rear exhaust system weight
  • Allowing reuse of compatible factory, aftermarket or Fabspeed exhaust tips
  • Providing a motorsport-inspired exhaust character
  • Allowing compatible Fabspeed systems to be converted between muffled and bypass configurations

Fabspeed specifically designed the system to be interchangeable, allowing owners with the required Fabspeed components to change between a muffler and muffler-bypass arrangement.

Symptoms Of Wear Or Failure:
Exhaust bypass pipes contain fewer internal components than conventional mufflers, but they are still exposed to extreme heat, vibration, moisture and road contamination.

Signs that the bypass pipes or their connections may require attention include:

  • Cracks around welds or pipe joints
  • Exhaust blowing or hissing sounds
  • Black soot around leaking connections
  • Loose clamps or mounting hardware
  • Excessive movement or vibration
  • Metallic rattling from loose mounting points
  • Visible corrosion or surface deterioration
  • Dents or impact damage to the pipework
  • Exhaust tips becoming incorrectly aligned
  • Exhaust fumes escaping from joints before the tailpipes
  • Unusual changes in exhaust sound
  • Pipes contacting surrounding bodywork or heat shields

If the vehicle is still fitted with its original mufflers, deterioration may instead appear as rattling internal components, corrosion, cracking, exhaust leaks or damage to the muffler casing.

Why Replacement / Upgrading Matters:

  • A damaged exhaust pipe or leaking connection can allow hot exhaust gases to escape before reaching the intended outlets. This can create unwanted noise, soot deposits and additional heat around nearby components.
  • Cracked or poorly supported exhaust components can also move excessively and place additional load on mounting brackets, joints and surrounding parts.
  • Where the existing Fabspeed Maxflo system is in good condition, fitting the Muffler Bypass Pipes is primarily a performance-sound and weight-reduction upgrade rather than a necessary repair. The bypass configuration removes the rear mufflers and gives the 996 Turbo a significantly more aggressive exhaust character.
  • For owners using their vehicle for performance driving or seeking a more dramatic exhaust note, the reduced restriction and considerable weight saving can make the bypass configuration particularly attractive.
  • If replacing worn or damaged exhaust components, restoring secure, correctly aligned pipework also ensures that exhaust gases are directed safely to the rear of the vehicle.

Fabspeed Sport Headers.

The Fabspeed Sport Headers are a high-performance replacement for the factory exhaust manifolds on 2001–2005 Porsche 996 Turbo and 996 GT2 models.

Fits:

  • Porsche 996 GT2 2001-05

Designed to improve the flow of exhaust gases from the cylinder heads to the turbochargers, these headers use equal-length primary tubing combined with high-velocity 3-into-1 merge collectors. This arrangement is engineered to improve exhaust flow and pulse-wave scavenging while reducing unnecessary restriction before the turbochargers.

Manufactured from 14–16 gauge CNC mandrel-bent T304L stainless steel, the headers provide excellent resistance to corrosion, high exhaust temperatures and repeated thermal cycling.

Fabspeed quotes performance gains of approximately 12 wheel horsepower and 14 ft-lb of torque. Actual results can vary depending on vehicle condition, modifications and operating conditions.

What This Product Does:
The exhaust headers collect combustion gases from the engine's cylinders and direct them towards the turbochargers.

On a turbocharged engine, exhaust energy is used to drive the turbine wheels and generate boost. Maintaining efficient flow between the cylinder heads and turbochargers is therefore important for engine response and overall performance.

The Fabspeed Sport Headers are designed to:

  • Improve exhaust gas flow
  • Reduce restriction before the turbochargers
  • Improve exhaust pulse scavenging
  • Provide more efficient delivery of exhaust gases to the turbochargers
  • Support improved throttle and engine response
  • Support increased horsepower and torque
  • Replace ageing factory manifolds
  • Provide durable stainless-steel construction
  • Maintain consistent pipe diameter through mandrel-bent sections

The equal-length design helps coordinate exhaust pulses from each cylinder, while the 3-into-1 collectors smoothly combine the gases before they enter the turbochargers.

Symptoms Of Wear Or Failure:
Exhaust headers operate under extremely demanding conditions and are continually exposed to high temperatures, vibration and repeated heating and cooling cycles.

Common signs of worn, cracked or leaking headers include:

  • Ticking or tapping noises, particularly when the engine is cold
  • Blowing or hissing noises from the manifold area
  • Black soot deposits around header joints
  • Visible cracks in the manifold or welds
  • Exhaust leaks around the cylinder-head flanges
  • Warped mounting flanges
  • Broken or corroded mounting studs and nuts
  • Increased exhaust noise
  • Exhaust fumes around the engine area
  • Reduced throttle response
  • Slower or inconsistent turbo response
  • Loss of engine performance
  • Increased heat around neighbouring engine components

Similar symptoms can also be caused by failed exhaust gaskets or loose mounting hardware, so the complete manifold assembly should be inspected before replacement.

Why Replacement Matters:
A properly sealed exhaust path between the cylinder heads and turbochargers is particularly important on a turbocharged engine.

If a header cracks or develops a leaking flange, some exhaust gas can escape before reaching the turbocharger. This reduces the exhaust energy available to drive the turbine and can contribute to slower turbo response and reduced engine performance.

Escaping exhaust gases can also expose surrounding components to excessive heat and create unwanted noise.

Replacing damaged or deteriorated headers helps restore:

  • A secure and leak-free exhaust path
  • Efficient exhaust delivery to the turbochargers
  • Consistent turbocharger response
  • Correct exhaust flow
  • Reduced exhaust leakage
  • Reliable long-term operation

For vehicles with healthy factory headers, upgrading to the Fabspeed system provides a freer-flowing equal-length design intended to improve scavenging and support increased performance.

Fabspeed X-50 Style Tips.

The Fabspeed X-50 Style Exhaust Tips are premium replacement exhaust outlets designed for the 2001–2005 Porsche 996 GT2.

Fits:

  • Porsche 996 GT2 2001-05

Designed as a direct bolt-on upgrade, these tips can be fitted to the factory exhaust system as well as compatible aftermarket exhausts. The X-50-inspired design gives the rear of the 996 GT2 a distinctive performance-focused appearance while providing a durable replacement for ageing, damaged or heavily discoloured original exhaust outlets.

Manufactured from high-quality 14–16 gauge T304L stainless steel, the tips are engineered to withstand high exhaust temperatures, condensation, road contamination and repeated thermal cycles.

What This Product Does:
Exhaust tips form the visible final section of the exhaust system and provide the outlet through which exhaust gases leave the vehicle.

The Fabspeed X-50 Style Tips are designed primarily to:

  • Replace worn, corroded or damaged original exhaust tips
  • Provide an X-50-inspired performance appearance
  • Maintain secure and correctly positioned exhaust outlets
  • Refresh the appearance of the rear exhaust system
  • Fit factory and compatible aftermarket exhaust systems
  • Provide durable stainless-steel construction
  • Allow a straightforward bolt-on upgrade without replacing the complete exhaust

These tips are primarily an appearance, durability and replacement upgrade rather than a significant engine-performance modification.

Symptoms Of Wear Or Failure:
Exhaust tips are continuously exposed to high temperatures, moisture, condensation, exhaust deposits and road debris.

Common signs that replacement may be required include:

  • Surface rust or corrosion
  • Pitting in the metal
  • Permanent staining or heat discolouration
  • Heavy soot accumulation
  • Peeling or deterioration of the original finish
  • Dents or deformation
  • Scratches or impact damage
  • Loose mounting points
  • Rattling or vibration
  • Cracks around welds or attachment areas
  • Tips sitting unevenly or out of alignment
  • Contact with the bumper or surrounding trim
  • Severely corroded mounting hardware
  • A deteriorated appearance that cannot be restored through cleaning or polishing

Cosmetic deterioration alone may not affect exhaust operation, but severe corrosion or damaged mounting points can eventually allow the tip to become loose.

Why Replacement Matters:
Exhaust tips are a prominent feature at the rear of the Porsche 996 GT2, so worn or damaged outlets can noticeably affect the appearance of the vehicle.

More importantly, a loose or distorted exhaust tip can vibrate, rattle or move sufficiently to contact the rear bumper or surrounding trim.

Continued movement can result in:

  • Unwanted rattling and vibration
  • Damage to surrounding bumper trim
  • Increased stress on exhaust mounting hardware
  • Poor exhaust outlet alignment
  • Further deterioration of attachment points
  • Possible detachment if mounting areas become severely weakened

Replacing worn exhaust tips helps restore secure mounting, correct positioning and a clean finished appearance.

Where the main exhaust system remains serviceable, replacing only the tips is also a practical way to refresh the vehicle without replacing silencers, catalytic converters or other major exhaust components.
