The Fabspeed Porsche 986 Boxster Secondary Cat Bypass Pipes are a competition-focused exhaust upgrade designed to replace the heavy and restrictive factory secondary catalytic converters fitted to 2000–2004 Porsche 986 Boxster and Boxster S models.

Manufactured from T304L stainless steel with CNC mandrel-bent tubing, the bypass pipes replace the original secondary catalysts with freer-flowing straight-through exhaust sections. This reduces exhaust restriction and weight while producing a more pronounced flat-six exhaust note and improved throttle response.

Fabspeed reports an increase of 8 wheel horsepower together with a substantial 25 lb (approximately 11.3 kg) weight reduction compared with the factory secondary catalytic converters. These are manufacturer-reported figures, and actual results can vary according to vehicle condition, specification and testing conditions.

These pipes are designed for use with the factory OEM-style muffler and install as a bolt-on replacement without cutting or welding.

What This Product Does:
The factory secondary catalytic converters form part of the Porsche 986 exhaust system and create a degree of restriction as exhaust gases pass through their internal catalyst substrates.

The Fabspeed Secondary Cat Bypass Pipes remove these secondary catalysts and replace them with straight-through exhaust tubing.

This creates a less restrictive path for exhaust gases travelling from the engine toward the rear muffler.

A catalytic converter is an emissions control device to stop harmful exhaust gasses from entering the atmosphere. In 1993, they became legality in the UK as part of the Euro Emissions standards. The aim of them is to improve air quality. As emissions standards have become more stringent the number of cats on a vehicle has increased. Many vehicles now have two or more to enable them to meet the Euro Emissions standards.

Our cat is made up of the following components:
• Ceramic monolith of a honeycomb design to allow free air flow and maximum surface area, coated with precious metals to enable the conversion of gasses that pass through it
• Interam matting to hold the monolith in place. The matting expands when exposed to heat to supply the pressure needed to keep the monolith secure
• A grade 409 stainless steel can (or housing) to provide protection and enable the cat to be built into the exhaust system. 409 grade can contain upto 90% iron and will be prone to rust. It still has higher rust-resistant properties than mild steel.
