It is well known that as a generation of 911 reaches a certain level of maturity, Porsche tends to go a little crazy and start on more GT performance-based models alongside some even more special stuff. And here we have the announcement of a new speedster! Porsche has confirmed that they will be producing 1948 speedsters, in a nod to the year that Zuffenhausen started building sports cars.
The drive train is almost identical to the stock GT3, sharing the naturally aspirated flat-six developing a heady 493 horsepower near a heady 9000rpm redline. A GT-Spec titanium exhaust is meant to make the most of the sound available.
It’s worth mentioning that with a lightweight tonneau rooftop and 8 Tenax fasteners, this car may not get the most use in the UK compared to say, LA. But if we have a repeat of this summers heatwave maybe we can expect to spot this modern blast from the past cruising round our streets.
