Porsche 991 Upgrade Parts for Peak Performance | 911 Carrera, Cabriolet, Coupe, Targa, Turbo

Coming off the back of the hugely successful 997, the Porsche 991 was introduced at the Frankfurt Motor Show on September 15, 2011, marking a significant advancement in the evolution of the 911 series. This seventh generation of the iconic 911 model featured a longer wheelbase and a wider front track, contributing to enhanced stability and handling. The chassis utilised a combination of aluminum and steel, making it lighter yet more rigid than its predecessor, demonstrating Porsche’s commitment to continuous improvement in vehicle dynamics and efficiency (Wikipedia, Stuttcars).

The 991 generation introduced several new technological features, including Porsche Dynamic Chassis Control (PDCC) and a more sophisticated infotainment system. Notably, it was the first 911 to offer a seven-speed manual transmission, providing both improved performance and fuel efficiency (Wikipedia, Stuttcars).

In 2016, the 991 underwent a major re-engineering and was reintroduced as the 991.2. This update brought turbocharged engines across the entire lineup, replacing the naturally aspirated engines of previous models. This change significantly increased power and efficiency while maintaining the distinctive driving experience for which Porsche is known. The 991.2 also featured aesthetic updates, such as redesigned headlights, taillights, and bumpers, giving it a refreshed and modern look (Supercars.net, StuttgartDNA).

Exploring Porsche 991 Upgrade Parts

For enthusiasts considering a Porsche 991 upgrade, this generation offers numerous options to enhance performance, technology, and aesthetics, further solidifying its place in Porsche’s legacy.

Production of the 991.2 continued until December 20, 2019, marking the end of an era for this generation. It was then succeeded by the Porsche 992, which introduced further advancements in performance, technology, and design. The 992 continued Porsche’s tradition of pushing the boundaries of what a sports car can achieve, building on the legacy of the 991 with even greater capabilities and refinements (Wikipedia, Stuttcars).

Throughout its production run, the Porsche 991 garnered acclaim for its exceptional driving dynamics, cutting-edge technology, and timeless design, leaving a lasting impact on the automotive world (Supercars.net, StuttgartDNA).

Service economy.

While there are many Porsche dealers and specialists who can service your Porsche, some owners like nothing more than getting stuck in themselves. It’s a great way to get under the skin of your car. If that sounds like you, then this major service kit is compatible with those 991 Turbos not fitted with Porsche Dynamic Chassis Control (PDCC).

Fresh start.

Similarly, another job drivers of the Porsche 991.1 Carrera (2012-16) and the Porsche 991 Turbo (2014-20) can manage themselves will be to replace their ignition coil. These OE Match ignition coils come in packs of six and fit many Porsche models. Look for yours here.

Belt drive upgrade.

If you are looking to replace your drivebelt there are two major considerations to bear in mind. The first is that you get a decent make as this isn’t something you want to do twice, and the second is that you select the right component for your specific model. There are plenty to choose from.

For example, this genuine Porsche drive belt is compatible with the 991, 992 GT3 and GT3 RS with air conditioning, whereas if you don’t have AC, this Dayco belt also works with the above and the Porsche 991 R.

Meanwhile, another genuine Porsche part, this drive belt works Porsche 991 Turbos and the 992 S and the post June 2020 GTS as well as cars with Option 352 Electronic damper control for PASM and PDCC. This belt, also a genuine Porsche component, fits the Porsche 991.1 Carrera 3.4L and Carrera S 3.8L (2012-16) with PDCC and the Porsche 991.2 Carrera 3.0L without PDCC.

Gates makes a belt for exactly the same models, which have the sports chassis, plus the 2017 Porsche 991.2 Carrera 3.0L that left the factory without that feature. If you’re driving the Porsche 991.1 S 3.8L or the turbo version, you’ll like this genuine Porsche component instead. If you’re not sure, there’s a full list here.

Don’t run dry!

The PDK Transmission is an amazing piece of kit. It lubricates the transmission parts and depending on the gear, alternates engine power via two separate driveshafts. Essentially two gearboxes in one, the PDK selects the next gear even as one gearbox is running with the first.

As a ‘wet clutch’ the key to ensuring the technology does not overheat and that helps prevent damage to the vehicle’s parts is to ensure oil is kept at the correct level and a fractured pan can be catastrophic. This OE Match component fits most 991s, but check here first.

Seeing is achieving.

Wiper arms, and the parts that keep them working, are exactly where you don’t want a failure. It seems obvious, but UK drivers will know that if you’re a fair weather driver only then you’re not seeing a lot of driving. Everybody else gets out there, rain or shine. Therefore, it pays to make sure your wipers are working at full efficiency and Design911 have all you need to survive the UK summer.

These genuine Porsche front arm wipers fit RHD variants of the 2012-16 991.1 Carrera, the

991 Turbo (2014-20), the 991 GT3 (2014-21) and the 991.2 Carrera 2017-19. If you’re looking to replace the rear wiper too, then this Porsche component fits every 991. If you’ve imported a LHD car, then check this list. Design911 offer a detailed range of wiper spares for your 991 – there’s a full list here – including Genuine Porsche screenwash.

Battery packed.

Similarly, the range of batteries and accessories – including chargers, adapters, diagnostic chargers and battery condition comfort indicators – is extensive and is largely interchangeable. Check the full range here. Seems obvious but worth mentioning that batteries are not available for delivery. These things are pretty heavy.
