Boxster, Cayman or Spyder, Porsche made the mid-engine 718 to be driven hard and for fun. Porsche wanted to take the everyday out of every day and when they’re flying it’s easy to feel that this is a box, ticked. But this being Porsche, the finest engineered car out there, we can offer a few tips and tricks to get even more. Let’s go!

Design 911: The Wheel Deal.

Understatement alert: On a performance car, your choice of wheel really matters. It’s not easy to find something that not only looks the part, but also transfers all that grunt evenly where the rubber hits the road. So, choose these original Porsche 20-inch ‘911 Turbo’ forged alloy wheels. One-piece, with 10 double spokes in two-tone look and perfect for summer, they look the part and deliver where it matters most. On the fly?

While we’re talking about wheels, it’s worth noting that if your clutch pedal is stiff, you’re struggling to change gear, there’s a ‘scratchy’ noise from your engine at lower revs or a rattling sensation going through the gears, your flywheel could be on the way out. And that’s bad.

They tend to fail between 80-100,000 miles so worth thinking about when your 718 is next due on the ramp. Your flywheel will be single, or dual mass – i.e. with one flywheel attached to the crankshaft and the other to the clutch. Choose yours from our range – which includes a fitting kit. Strut your stuff.

Strut mounts reduce chassis flex. That means better cornering and more precise handling on the street or track – which you may well be thinking about if you’re riding a 718. Similarly, upgrading your springs is a quick, effective and economical way to get a sportier look, improve aerodynamics and reduce drag.

Suspension bridge.

If that’s the look you’re after, but don’t want to mess with your setup, use these heavy duty, high tolerance control arms to correct suspension geometry changes in the front and rear of the lowered vehicle. Getting bad vibrations? Our experts note that some Porsche 718 drivers detect a little vibration noise from the metal cable ends. If that’s you, then consider these short shift kits, which use insulation cabling to fix the issue.

Brake the bank?

Turbo to go…

Diverter valves aren’t front of mind for the Porsche 718 driver but worth thinking about when you’re tweaking your engine setup for maximum performance. The factory-fitted plastic blow-off valve (BOV) can lose boost pressure and fail. Not these. Our aluminium recirculation valves protect the turbo compressor by redirecting the back-flowing charged air to the turbo inlet pipe.
