Reviving the Porsche 944 S2: Building a Dream Car with Design 911

Liam is a proud owner of a Porsche 944 and has a deep passion for the sports car. He spent the day sharing his knowledge and experience with us, taking us for a spin in his 944 and discussing his future plans for modifications. Liam’s 944 is his dream car and he has a clear vision of how he wants to customize it to make it unique and truly his own. From performance upgrades to aesthetic modifications, Liam has big plans for his 944 and is excited to bring his vision to life. It was an exciting day spent with Liam and his Porsche 944, and we can’t wait to see what he has in store for the future.

Liam Freeman is a presenter and co-founder of the Backroads who has a passion for Porsche vehicles. Rally racing captivated him at a young age and he developed a love for Porsche’s 70s and 80s 911 and 959 Group B era rally cars as well as their road cars such as the G Series 911, 924, 944, and 964 body types. He purchased a 944 S2, a naturally aspirated 3-liter engine car, as his first Porsche and has owned it for over a year. Liam intends to turn his 944 S2 into his dream car, tasteful and an extension of his personality, with a clean and subtle look with hidden details. He plans to modify the wheels, suspension, engine, interior, and body to an OEM plus style.

Liam started using Design 911 for his project series back in 2021 and values the quality of their parts. He believes the 924 and 944 platform provides an entry point for young car enthusiasts into the otherwise prestigious and expensive Porsche market. Design 911 has played a crucial role in reviving and restoring his project cars to his desired level and continuously updates their catalog to keep more of these under-appreciated Porsches on the road.

Liam says “The 944 has allowed something that many other classic Porsches can’t an entry point. Somewhere, young car enthusiasts can find their way into an otherwise prestigious and rather pricey market without breaking the bank. And that’s something that is unique to the 924 and the 944 platform. Even though the 911 is often everyone’s dream Porsche, the Porsche underdogs have paved way for the next generation of Porsche enthusiasts to have their say and grow with the community.”
