Handmade around a welded lightweight steel tube frame, the TransAm combines high lateral support, a low seating position and Duralastic suspension to create a classic competition-style seat suitable for restoration, restomod and historic motorsport-inspired cars.

This version is designed for cars retaining standard 3-point seatbelts.

Inspired by Classic Trans-Am Racing

The Trans-Am race series brought together some of the most recognisable performance cars of the period, including Mustang, Cougar, Corvette, Camaro, Porsche, Challenger, Datsun, Charger, AMC, Triumph and Jaguar.

Many competition cars used lightweight fibreglass, alloy or specially fabricated racing seats to provide drivers with greater support during demanding race conditions.

The Retro Trim TransAm recreates this purposeful appearance while providing a seat suitable for today's classic car enthusiast.

High Lateral Support

The TransAm features raised side bolsters extending towards the front of the seat to provide increased lateral support.

This helps hold the driver more securely during enthusiastic driving while maintaining the distinctive appearance of a traditional 1960s and 1970s competition seat.

Designed for Standard 3-Point Seatbelts

This version is intended for vehicles retaining their standard 3-point seatbelt system.

It provides the increased support and classic competition appearance of the TransAm design without requiring a conversion to a multi-point harness.

Lightweight Steel Tube Frame

The seat is handmade using a welded lightweight steel tube frame, providing a strong foundation while retaining the lightweight philosophy of traditional competition seating.

Fire-resistant foam and Duralastic suspension belts provide a firm but comfortable seating position, helping make the TransAm suitable for longer road journeys as well as historic motorsport-inspired applications.

Low Seating Position

The TransAm seat itself is non-adjustable and is designed to position the driver as low as practical within the vehicle.

Final seat height and angle are determined during installation, allowing the mounting arrangement to be selected to suit the driver and vehicle.

An optional tilting bracket is available where improved access to rear seating is required.

Have Your Seats Upholstered Locally

Supplying the TransAm as a seat frame kit allows the upholstery to be completed by your preferred local trimmer or interior restoration specialist.

This gives you the freedom to choose leather, vinyl, fabric or period-style materials and match the seats to an existing classic interior or create a completely bespoke specification.

Kit Includes

  • Seat frame
  • Duralastic suspension belts
  • Side foam
  • Back foam
  • Seat cushion
  • Headrest

Retro Trim TransAm 3-Point Seatbelt Classic Racing Seat Frame Kits

The Retro Trim TransAm Seat Frame Kit is designed for classic car owners looking to combine period Trans-Am racing style with improved driver support and standard 3-point seatbelt compatibility.

Its welded lightweight steel tube frame, raised side support, Duralastic suspension and low seating position make it particularly suited to classic Porsche, American muscle, European sports car and historic racing-inspired projects.

The unfinished kit can be upholstered locally in materials chosen to complement a period restoration or create an individual restomod interior.

About Seat Parts

Porsche Seat Parts | Design911 Components for Repair, Adjustment & Restoration

Seat parts are essential to maintaining the comfort, support, and functionality of your Porsche’s interior. Every element — from hinges and sliders to adjustment mechanisms and mounting hardware — plays a key role in providing a secure, ergonomic driving position. Whether you’re restoring a classic Porsche or maintaining a modern performance model, ensuring that all seat components operate smoothly is vital for safety, comfort, and overall driving experience.

At Design911, we supply an extensive range of seat parts and components, including runners, rails, recliner mechanisms, hinges, adjustment handles, brackets, and seat mounts. Each part is designed for accurate fitment, long-term durability, and precise operation. Ideal for interior restorations, seat repairs, or upgrades, our components are crafted from premium materials to maintain Porsche-level comfort and performance.

What Do Seat Parts Do?

Seat parts ensure stability, comfort, and adjustability, providing the perfect driving position while maintaining occupant safety.

Core Functions:
• Enable fore/aft, height, and recline adjustments for comfort and control.
• Secure the seat frame to the chassis for stability and safety.
• Allow smooth sliding and locking through precision-engineered rails.
• Support seat back and cushion structure under load.
• Ensure ergonomic posture for both everyday and performance driving.

Every part contributes to the seamless operation of your seat — ensuring your Porsche’s driving feel remains precise and comfortable.

Why Do Seat Parts Fail or Degrade?

Seat mechanisms and structural components are exposed to constant stress, movement, and environmental factors that can lead to wear or malfunction.

Common Causes of Failure Include:
• Metal fatigue or corrosion from moisture or use over time.
• Worn sliders or seized adjustment rails.
• Damaged recliner mechanisms or broken levers.
• Cracked plastic trims or deteriorated bushings.
• Loose or misaligned mounting hardware.

When seat parts fail, movement, noise, or misalignment can occur — compromising comfort, safety, and driving precision.

Why Replace or Upgrade Your Porsche Seat Parts?

Replacing worn seat components restores functionality, comfort, and structural integrity. Upgrading to enhanced materials or precision-engineered parts ensures long-term performance and perfect fitment.

Key Benefits:
• Restores seat adjustability, alignment, and comfort.
• Eliminates rattles, looseness, and mechanical play.
• Improves driving ergonomics and safety.
• Constructed from high-quality steel, alloy, or reinforced polymer.
• Designed to fit Porsche 911, 944, 968, Boxster, Cayman, and 718 models.
