Over time, original bulb holders can become brittle, corroded or lose electrical continuity, resulting in intermittent or failed dashboard lighting. This OE Match replacement offers the correct fit and function, making it ideal for electrical repairs, instrument refurbishment and classic Porsche restoration projects.

What Does the 2-Pole T5 Bulb Holder Do?

The bulb holder forms the electrical connection between the vehicle's wiring harness and the T5 dashboard bulb.

Its primary functions include:

  • Holding the T5 wedge bulb securely in position.
  • Providing a reliable two-pole electrical connection.
  • Supplying power to dashboard and instrument illumination.
  • Ensuring consistent lighting of gauges, switches or warning lamps.
  • Allowing quick replacement of dashboard bulbs during servicing.

A correctly functioning bulb holder is essential for maintaining clear instrument visibility, particularly when driving at night.

Why Does the Bulb Holder Fail?

After many years of service, the original bulb holder is exposed to heat, vibration and repeated bulb replacement.

Common causes of failure include:

  • Brittle plastic caused by age and heat.
  • Corrosion on the electrical contacts.
  • Oxidation reducing electrical conductivity.
  • Damaged or bent contact terminals.
  • Wear caused by repeated bulb changes.
  • Poor electrical connection resulting from vibration.

A faulty bulb holder may cause flickering illumination, intermittent operation or complete failure of the instrument lighting.

When Should It Be Replaced?

Replacement is recommended when:

  • Dashboard or instrument lights fail despite fitting a new bulb.
  • Illumination flickers or operates intermittently.
  • The holder is cracked, broken or heat damaged.
  • Electrical contacts show signs of corrosion.
  • Restoring or refurbishing the instrument cluster.
  • Carrying out preventative maintenance during dashboard repairs.

Replacing worn bulb holders alongside new bulbs helps ensure reliable and consistent instrument illumination.

This gear is located on the side of the speedometer framework and forms an important part of the internal gear train that drives both the odometer and trip meter. Over time, the original plastic gear can become brittle through age and repeated use, often developing a fine crack around the centre bore where it fits onto the shaft. Once cracked, the gear can no longer grip the shaft correctly, causing it to slip and preventing the odometer from recording mileage accurately.

One of the most common symptoms is that the speedometer needle continues to work normally, while the odometer and trip meter stop counting or operate intermittently.

It is important to note that there are potentially two internal gears that commonly fail within the speedometer. Before ordering, inspect the gear mounted on the side of the speedometer framework.

If your existing gear is metal, this replacement is not required. If your gear is plastic, inspect it carefully around the shaft hole for hairline cracks or signs of slipping. Even a very small crack is enough to cause the gear to fail.

To ensure the correct replacement is ordered, the speedometer must be opened and the existing gear inspected. As Porsche used several different gear styles and tooth counts across production, it is always recommended to confirm the original gear before purchasing.

Key Features

  • Replaces the plastic gear fitted to the side of the speedometer framework
  • Restores odometer and trip meter operation
  • Direct replacement for worn or cracked original gears
  • Manufactured for precise fit and reliable performance
  • Ideal for speedometer restoration and instrument repairs

Always inspect your original gear before ordering Not required if your existing gear is metal

Porsche Mechanical Speedometer & Odometer Repair Parts

The mechanical VDO speedometers fitted to classic Porsche models are renowned for their durability, but after decades of service the internal plastic gears naturally become brittle. One of the most common failures occurs when the gear mounted on the side of the speedometer framework develops a small crack around the centre shaft.

Although the crack is often difficult to see, it prevents the gear from gripping the shaft securely, allowing it to rotate independently instead of driving the odometer mechanism. Replacing the damaged gear restores accurate mileage recording while preserving the originality of your factory instrument.

Common Symptoms of a Failed Mechanical Odometer Gear

  • Speedometer needle operates correctly
  • Odometer has stopped recording mileage
  • Trip meter no longer works
  • Intermittent odometer operation
  • Gear slips on the shaft
  • Hairline crack visible around the centre bore of the plastic gear

Because several different gear designs and tooth counts were used across Porsche production, dismantling the speedometer and inspecting the original gear is essential before ordering a replacement.

Rubber sealing ring, 100 mm, Black, for speedo and combination gauge.
This Rubber Sealing Ring is an OE-style 100mm dashboard instrument sealing ring designed for Porsche 911 models from 1969 to 1985. It fits around the speedometer and combination gauge housings, helping secure the instruments within the dashboard while reducing vibration and creating a clean protective seal.

Fits:
Porsche 911 2.2L-3.2L 08/1969 - 07/1984
Porsche 914 1.7L-2.0L 01/1969 - 02/1976

Installed around the outer circumference of the dashboard instrument housing, the sealing ring acts as both a retaining cushion and protective gasket between the gauge body and dashboard opening. It helps hold the instrument firmly in place while reducing vibration, rattling, and movement during driving. The seal also creates a neat factory-style finish around the instrument edge for an authentic dashboard appearance.

The rubber sealing ring cushions and secures the dashboard gauge within the dashboard opening while reducing vibration and providing a clean sealing edge around the instrument housing.

Function
•  Secures dashboard gauges within instrument panel
•  Reduces vibration and instrument rattling
•  Cushions gauge housing against dashboard trim
•  Creates clean sealing edge around instrument
•  Restores factory dashboard appearance and fitment

Dashboard instrument seals deteriorate over time due to heat, UV exposure, and compression ageing. Hardened or flattened seals can allow gauges to loosen within the dashboard, causing rattling, vibration, and poor dashboard appearance. Replacing worn sealing rings restores secure instrument mounting and factory-style fitment.

When to replace
  Loose or rattling dashboard gauges
  Cracked or hardened rubber seal
  Visible gaps around instrument housing
During dashboard restoration or instrument refurbishment
During gauge removal or dashboard servicing
