Fuel rails / regulators
Fits:
Porsche 911 3.2 Carrera - 1984 to 1989
Porsche 928 - 1980 to 1986 (non CIS)
Replaces Bosch 0280160262, 0280160232, 0280160215, Porsche 92811019802, 92811019801, 92811019800, 92811019826 (2.5 Bar no vacuum line connected)
Most of these regulators are original and now nearly 40 years old so they are prone to leak or fail causing all sorts of running and tuning issues. They are easy to replace, albeit a little bit fiddly being at the front of the manifold for the 3.2ltr engine. To suit the lower operating fuel pressure of the 3.2 Motronic, we use an adjustable fuel pressure regulator. This simple and elegant design uses steel O-Ring boss sealing adapters to the manifold.
Easily replaceable fuel pressure regulator.
Spare outlet for fuel pressure gauge or sensor.
The adjustable fuel pressure regulator has been tested with Bosch 044 fuel pumps, but the upper limit of fuel flow rate has not been tested.
Kit Includes:
- Porsche 911 3.2 Carrera / early 928 (non CIS) OEM fitting kit - SPA adjustable fuel pressure regulator
- Fuel pressure regulator body x 1
- 2.0 to 5.0 adjustable fuel pressure regulator instead of fixed regulator x 1
- Adapter fittings to fit OEM hose and fuel rail ends x 2
- Hose Tail fitting to fit factory return line x 1
- ORB Plug x 1
This kit must use the adjustable fuel pressure regulator as Bosch does not produce a standard 2.5bar pressure regulator in this form.
Please Note
Other fittings and options such as fuel pressure sensors, or fuel pressure gauges available upon request.
We have also developed fuel pressure dampers for the 3.2 and 928 engines, check out our site for the product details.
The fuel pressure regulator needs to be adjusted and set on the car after installation to ensure the operating conditions meet the factory specifications. A fuel pressure gauge and fittings to adapt to the factory fuel rails is required to be able to complete this procedure. The regulators are not shipped pre-set to the 2.5bar operating pressure.
We can also provide a solution for early 944 replacing Porsche part number 94411019801, Bosch part number 0280160214,

This Adapt Motorsport fixed 3.0 bar fuel pressure regulator kit is a direct-fit solution for the early 1987 Porsche 928 S4. It may also be used as a pressure upgrade for the 1984–89 Porsche 911 Carrera 3.2 and 1980–86 non-CIS 928 when accompanied by suitable engine-management retuning.
Fits:
- Porsche 911 1984-1986 3.2L - upgrade from 2.5 to 3.0 bar; retuning required
- Porsche 911 1987-1989 3.2L G50 - upgrade from 2.5 to 3.0 bar; retuning required
- Porsche 928S4 5.0L 1987
What This Product Does
The regulator maintains a fixed 3.0 bar fuel pressure without a connected vacuum reference line. The supplied body and adapters allow the Bosch regulator to connect to the relevant factory fuel rail, supply hose and return line.
Functions
- Controls fuel-system pressure at a fixed 3.0 bar setting
- Connects the Bosch regulator to the original fuel rail and hose ends
- Retains connection to the factory fuel return line
- Provides a replacement for the specified Porsche and Bosch references
- Supports suitably retuned 2.5-to-3.0 bar upgrade applications
Technical Details
- Regulator type: fixed-pressure Bosch unit
- Nominal pressure: 3.0 bar
- Vacuum reference: no vacuum line connected
- Kit contents: one regulator body, one Bosch regulator, two OEM-end adapter fittings, one return-line hose-tail fitting and one ORB plug
- Porsche reference: 92811019802
- Bosch references: 0280160232 and 0280160262
Symptoms of Fault
- Difficult starting when the engine is hot
- Rough, unstable or hunting idle
- Rich running, black exhaust smoke or increased fuel consumption
- Hesitation when applying the throttle
- Misfiring or weak running under load
- Fuel odour or leakage near the regulator
- Fuel pressure that is incorrect, unstable or falls too quickly after shutdown
Why Replacement Matters
An ageing or defective regulator can allow fuel pressure to move outside the intended specification, affecting starting, idle quality and fuelling. This Porsche-specific fitting kit provides the components needed to install a modern fixed-pressure Bosch regulator while retaining the relevant factory hose, rail and return-line connections. On vehicles originally configured for 2.5 bar, the change to 3.0 bar must be matched by appropriate chip or ECU retuning rather than treated as a direct standard-pressure replacement.
FAQs
- Is this a direct replacement for every listed model?
No. It is specified as a direct 3.0 bar replacement for the early 1987 non-CIS Porsche 928. Earlier 928 and 911 Carrera 3.2 applications require retuning. - Can it replace Porsche reference 92811019802?
Yes. This reference is specified for the 3.0 bar application without a connected vacuum line. - Which Bosch regulators does the kit replace?
The stated cross-references are Bosch 0280160232 and 0280160262. - Is the regulator adjustable?
No. The included Bosch regulator has a fixed 3.0 bar pressure specification. - Does the kit connect to the factory return line?
Yes. A hose-tail fitting for the original return line is included. - Is specialist installation recommended?
Professional installation and calibration are advisable, particularly when converting a vehicle from 2.5 to 3.0 bar fuel pressure.

Porsche Fuel Pressure Regulators - Precision Fuel Delivery Control
Fuel Pressure Regulators control and stabilise fuel pressure within the injection system, ensuring the correct amount of fuel is delivered to the engine under all operating conditions. Accurate fuel pressure is critical for combustion efficiency, throttle response, and engine safety—particularly in tuned or high-performance Porsche engines.
Available from Design911, Porsche fuel regulators include OEM replacements and performance upgrades designed to maintain consistent fuel pressure, support increased fuel demand, and improve reliability in performance-driven applications.
What Do Fuel Regulators Do?
Fuel regulators maintain controlled and consistent fuel pressure across the fuel system.
Core Functions:
- Regulate fuel pressure to injectors.
- Ensure consistent fuel delivery under varying load.
- Protect injectors and fuel pump from pressure spikes.
- Support accurate air-fuel ratios.
- Maintain stable engine performance and efficiency.
Precise fuel pressure is essential for reliable engine operation.
Why Do Fuel Regulators Fail?
Over time, fuel pressure regulators can degrade due to heat,
contamination, and mechanical wear. Common failure causes include:
- Diaphragm fatigue or rupture.
- Internal spring wear affecting pressure control.
- Fuel contamination causing blockage or sticking.
- Heat exposure in engine bay environments.
- Increased fuel demand from tuned engines exceeding stock capacity.
Failing regulators can lead to poor performance, fuel starvation, rich running, or engine damage.
Why Upgrade to a Performance Fuel Regulator?
Performance fuel regulators are engineered to handle higher fuel demands with greater precision.
Upgrade Benefits:
- More accurate and stable fuel pressure control.
- Improved support for tuned or modified engines.
- Enhanced reliability under high load and RPM.
- Compatibility with upgraded injectors and fuel pumps.
- Essential for safe performance tuning and engine builds.
Upgrading ensures the fuel system can meet increased performance demands safely.
