Almost every automatic 928 will suffers from loose and cracked selector handles - check for yourself.
The shifter gets cracks in the base and therefore starts to feel a bit loose so slide the rubber off the foot and check the shifter.
The base of the shifter becomes loose where it is mounted and we have even encountered this problem on a 1995 928 GTS.
To save buying an expensive new item, we have developed a mounting block that fits perfectly around the bottom and serves as an extra reinforcement for the gear lever.
By clamping it with the help of the supplied, extended bolts, there is less force on the plastic so it will not break so easily.
Advice:
We advise to install this block as a preventive measure before it is really too late.
Set contains:
1 x Cube automatic gearshift
2 x Mounting bolts

Reducing Cabin Wear and Long-Term Issues
Using incorrectly specified interior parts can lead to rattles, misalignment, or premature wear. Design911 helps minimise these risks with Genuine Porsche or OEM-approved parts that meet original design intent.
Porsche Interior Component Maintenance and Longevity
Porsche interior components naturally experience wear over time due to usage, sunlight, heat, and environmental exposure. Regular inspection, cleaning, and timely replacement with quality parts help maintain functionality, aesthetics, and long-term value. Design911
supplies all the components needed for preventative maintenance and complete interior restoration projects.

Porsche Interior Reliability and Upgrade Advice
Maintaining a pristine Porsche interior requires careful attention to areas most prone to wear. Over time, steering wheels, gearshift knobs, pedals, handbrakes, trim, and other frequently handled components can degrade due to regular use, sunlight exposure, heat, and environmental factors.
Replacing ageing or worn components not only ensures reliable and safe operation but also helps preserve the vehicle’s aesthetics, factory finish, and long-term value. Using correctly specified parts is essential to maintain functional performance, restore cabin comfort, and prevent small issues from developing into more costly repairs.
Benefits of Preventative Replacement
- Enhanced Cabin Safety:
Restored pedals, steering wheels, and seat adjustment controls maintain
optimal driver control and responsiveness, reducing the risk of
operational hazards.
- Consistent System Performance: Gearshift
and handbrake assemblies, along with seat mechanisms, continue to
operate smoothly and predictably, avoiding stiffness, excessive play, or
malfunction.
- Preservation of Aesthetics: Timely
replacement of interior trim, door panels, dashboard components, and
carbon or wood finishes protects the original look of the cabin and
prevents fading, cracking, or wear from becoming permanent.
- Accurate Fit and Compatibility:
OEM or Genuine Porsche parts are designed to integrate seamlessly with
existing systems, ensuring that every component — from steering wheels
to pedals — functions exactly as intended.
- Confidence for Owners and Workshops:
Preventative replacement reduces the likelihood of unexpected cabin
failures, avoids repeated labour, and provides reassurance that the
vehicle is maintained to the highest standards.
- Support for Restoration and Upgrades: For classic Porsche owners, restoring interior components or upgrading to modern finishes, such as carbon fibre trim, MOMO steering wheels, or premium upholstery, enhances both style and functionality without compromising the vehicle’s integrity.
