With no moving airflow door restricting the intake, the engine can breathe more freely while the ECU receives accurate electronic airflow information throughout the operating range. The result is sharper throttle response, stronger usable power and torque, more efficient engine operation and an approximate 2.5kg weight saving.
Why Replace the Original Bosch AFM?
The original Bosch Motronic system uses a spring-loaded flap connected to a potentiometer to measure incoming air.
Although effective technology for its time, the mechanical flap creates a physical restriction within the intake. At low RPM and partial throttle, when the flap is only slightly open, this restriction can dull throttle response and make the engine feel less responsive.
At wide-open throttle, the limitations of the original AFM also mean the engine management relies on a richer, conservative operating strategy to help protect against knock.
Modern Hot-Film MAF Technology
The Rennline conversion replaces the mechanical AFM with a modern hot-film Mass Air Flow sensor.
Rather than using a moving flap, the MAF measures incoming air electronically. Removing the mechanical restriction allows air to pass more freely through the intake while providing the ECU with accurate airflow data throughout the RPM range.
The system also incorporates full altitude correction, compensating for changes in air density at different elevations.
Key Benefits
- Replaces the original Bosch Motronic AFM
- Modern hot-film MAF technology
- Eliminates the restrictive mechanical airflow flap
- Sharper low-RPM and partial-throttle response
- Stronger usable power and torque
- Accurate airflow measurement throughout the RPM range
- Cleaner and more efficient engine operation
- Full altitude correction for air-density compensation
- Approximately 2.5kg weight saving
- Plug-and-play installation
- No chip tuning required
- No calibration required
Improved Throttle Response
Removing the spring-loaded AFM door eliminates a physical obstruction from the intake system.
This is particularly beneficial at low engine speeds and partial throttle, helping the engine respond more immediately to accelerator input and providing a more engaging driving experience.
Plug-and-Play Installation
Unlike some MAF conversions that require replacement ECU chips, custom mapping or additional modifications, the Rennline x Storch VE system has been developed as a genuine plug-and-play conversion.
No calibration or chip tuning is required, allowing the original airflow measurement system to be modernised without extensive changes to the Bosch Motronic engine management system.
Porsche AFM Upgrade
Original Bosch AFMs are now decades old, and wear to their mechanical components and potentiometer can eventually contribute to inconsistent airflow readings and poor engine operation.
Rather than simply replacing an ageing AFM with another mechanical unit, this conversion introduces modern electronic airflow measurement while reducing intake restriction.
It is an ideal solution for owners searching for a Porsche 944 AFM replacement, Porsche 924S airflow meter upgrade or plug-and-play MAF conversion.

This is only the replacement filter for the induction kit.
Replacement filter for GruppeM RAM AIR SYSTEMS epitomize the GruppeM philosophy of attention to detail. By replacing the factory air handling systems, increased airflow streams into the combustion chamber. On the GruppeM intake for the Porsche 964 3.6L 1989-94 , the factory ductwork is replaced with heat-shielding carbon fiber with enhanced inlets to capture the maximum amount of air. Lower intake air temperatures carry higher concentrations of oxygen, allowing for more energetic explosions and producing more horsepower and torque. Of course, reliability is never sacrificed -- high-efficiency, high-flow K&N air filter materials prevent contaminants from interfering with proper engine function.

Engine Tuning Air Induction Kits – Unlock Your Porsche’s True Breathing Potential
An air induction kit is one of the most effective tuning upgrades for increasing power and responsiveness in your Porsche. Designed to replace restrictive stock airboxes and piping, these systems improve airflow, reduce intake resistance, and deliver cooler, denser air to the engine. The result is a sharper throttle response, enhanced torque, and a more engaging driving experience.
At Design911, we stock a premium range of performance air induction kits engineered for Porsche models across all generations — from classic 911s to modern Cayman, Boxster, and Taycan models. Manufactured from lightweight, heat-resistant materials with precision-fit components, our high-quality induction systems ensure optimal performance and a refined induction sound that complements your Porsche’s character.
Whether you’re aiming for track-ready performance or improved road dynamics, our air induction kits provide the perfect balance of power, reliability, and sound enhancement.
What Do Air Induction Kits Do?
Air induction kits optimise your Porsche’s intake system by increasing the volume and quality of air reaching the combustion chamber.
Core Functions:
- Increase
airflow efficiency to improve engine breathing and power output.
- Reduce
intake temperatures for denser air and better combustion.
- Enhance
throttle response for sharper, more immediate acceleration.
- Deliver
a sportier induction sound during acceleration.
- Improve fuel efficiency and overall engine performance.
When properly installed, an upgraded induction system can boost both performance and engine responsiveness, making it one of the best value-for-performance modifications available.
Why Do Induction Kits Fail or Require Replacement?
Like all high-performance components, air induction kits and filters are subject to environmental wear and heat exposure over time.
Common Causes of Failure Include:
- Clogged
or damaged filters reducing airflow and power.
- Cracked
intake pipes causing air leaks and inaccurate sensor readings.
- Heat
soak from poor insulation or worn heat shields.
- Contaminant
build-up on intake elements and sensors.
- Loose fittings or seals resulting in unmetered air entering the system.
Symptoms of a failing induction system include loss of performance, uneven idle, whistling noises, or increased fuel consumption — all indicators that maintenance or replacement is needed.
Why Upgrade or Replace with Performance Induction Components?
Replacing worn parts or upgrading to a high-performance induction system ensures consistent airflow, reduced restriction, and improved power delivery.
Key Benefits:
- Increases engine power and torque.
- Improves throttle response and drivability.
- Enhances induction sound and character.
- Constructed from lightweight, durable materials.
- Direct-fit
compatibility with Porsche 911, Cayman, Boxster, Macan, Panamera
and more.
- Ideal for performance tuning, track use, or spirited driving.
A precision-engineered induction kit maximises your Porsche’s performance potential while preserving reliability and long-term efficiency.
Highlights:
- Performance air induction kits engineered for Porsche models.
- Enhances airflow, power, and throttle response.
- Delivers a deep, refined induction sound.
- Built from heat-resistant carbon fibre, silicone, or aluminium.
- Easy installation with precision-fit design.
