The OE Match Cylinder Heat Shield Kit for Porsche 997 Carrera (2005–2008) provides a complete solution for replacing worn or corroded ignition heat shields while ensuring correct installation with genuine Porsche hardware.
This kit includes two OE Match 99610444502 heat shields, designed to fit both left and right cylinder banks. These shields are mounted over the ignition coil packs and act as a protective barrier against intense engine heat, helping maintain stable ignition performance and preventing premature failure of coil packs and surrounding components.
To ensure proper installation, the kit also includes four genuine Porsche Torx bolts (9A700812500, M6 x 16). These bolts provide secure fastening and are specifically designed for high-temperature environments, offering improved durability and ease of installation compared to standard fasteners.
Heat shields in this location are exposed to constant heat cycles, moisture, and road contaminants, which often leads to corrosion and deterioration. Replacing both shields together with new hardware ensures consistent protection across both banks and avoids issues with seized or weakened bolts.
This OE Match kit is ideal for ignition system servicing, preventative maintenance, or restoration of Porsche 997 Gen 1 models.
Original heat shields commonly corrode, weaken, or fail due to constant exposure to heat and moisture. A damaged or missing shield can lead to overheating of ignition coils, increasing the risk of misfires and reduced engine reliability. Replacing both shields together, along with new mounting bolts, ensures proper thermal protection and prevents issues caused by worn or seized hardware.
When to replace:
• Visible rust, corrosion, or deterioration
• Missing or loose heat shields
• Ignition coil issues related to heat exposure
• During coil pack replacement or servicing
• Preventative maintenance on high-mileage engines

The 99760210405 is the individual coil module used on the Porsche M96 and M97 M-series engines in many 986/996/987/early 997 cars. Normally should be replaced as a set of six coils (one per cylinder)
Why these coils should be replaced
Age / thermal breakdown: coils are exposed to heat cycles and can develop internal insulation breakdown or hairline cracks in the housing. Over time this causes weak or leaking high voltage and intermittent sparks.
Misfire symptoms: a failing coil will cause single-cylinder misfires (P030x codes), rough idle, reduced power, increased fuel consumption and catalytic converter heating/damage if left. These are the most common reasons owners replace coils.
Carbon tracking / cracking: visible cracks or carbon tracking on the coil boot can provide a leakage path for spark, reducing performance and causing intermittent faults.
Connector / wiring issues: corroded or loose coil connectors can mimic coil failures; inspect connectors when replacing coils.

Common issues reported in practice
One or more cylinders misfire when the engine is hot but behave quite normally when cold (typical of internal coil failure or heat-sensitive cracks). Cracked coil housings on Boxster/996 cars, owners often replace the entire set for reliability. After a spark plug change, misfires appear because weakened coils can fail once higher-voltage plugs are installed; this is a frequently reported pattern. How to diagnose (practical steps)
Read codes: P0300 / P0301–P0306 point to misfires; note which cylinder is affected.Swap test: swap the suspected coil with another cylinder’s coil — if the misfire follows the coil, the coil is bad. (Common, quick field test used by owners.)Measure resistance: check primary and secondary coil resistances at ~20°C and compare to the ranges above.Visual inspection: look for cracks, carbon tracking, oil ingress, or damaged boots/connectors.Oscilloscope / HV probe: for deeper diagnosis a scope or HV probe can show spark energy, but most DIY diagnostics use swap + resistance checks.Related reference numbers

The Plasma Direct is an ignition coil with a built-in high-power amplifier. Plasma Direct Coils produce 4 times more spark energy than stock coils, and generate an ultra-fast multi-spark-discharge of 10 sparks up to highest RPM.
The spark amperage is increased by 100%, allowing the spark to reach many more molecules, which therefore accelerates the ignition and combustion processes. This is extremely important in forced induction applications, but also improves the performance of normally aspirated engines.
The Plasma Direct will increase horsepower and torque throughout the entire RPM range, as well as reducing fuel consumption. Even engines with legendary smoothness will be further refined with the Plasma Direct upgrade. Plasma Direct coils are OBD II compliant.
- 100% secondary current (Spark Amperage) increase.
- 4 times spark energy increase for the initial spark discharge.
- 8% Fuel Saving
- Easy installation.
- Compatible with all OEM components.
- Compatible with OBD-II (On-Board-Diagnostics).

What Do Spark Plugs Do?
Spark plugs are critical ignition components that deliver the electric spark required to ignite the air-fuel mixture in the combustion chamber.
Core Functions:
• Create a high-voltage spark to initiate combustion.
• Ensure smooth, efficient engine operation.
• Support optimal fuel economy and throttle response.
• Reduce emissions through clean, consistent ignition.
• Maintain balanced power delivery and idle stability.
When properly maintained, spark plugs enhance both performance and fuel efficiency, ensuring your Porsche runs with precision and reliability.
Why Do Spark Plugs Fail or Degrade?
Spark plugs operate under intense pressure, heat, and chemical exposure — gradually wearing down over time and mileage.
Common Causes of Failure Include:
• Electrode wear from prolonged high-temperature operation.
• Carbon or oil fouling from incomplete combustion.
• Cracked or degraded insulators due to thermal stress.
• Incorrect heat range or plug gap settings.
• Age-related corrosion or weakened spark performance.
Failing spark plugs can cause rough idling, misfires, reduced fuel economy, and loss of power — making regular replacement essential to maintain your Porsche’s performance.
Why Replace or Upgrade Your Porsche Spark Plugs?
Replacing worn spark plugs restores full ignition efficiency, fuel economy, and responsiveness. Upgrading to performance-grade materials can also improve durability and spark precision for motorsport or tuned applications.
