The CV joint boot performs an essential protective function within the drivetrain. It retains the specialised grease required to lubricate the constant-velocity joint while preventing dirt, water and road debris from contaminating its internal components.

If the boot becomes split, cracked or damaged, grease can escape from the joint and contaminants can enter. Continued use in this condition can cause rapid CV joint wear and may eventually require replacement of the complete joint or driveshaft.

What Does the CV Joint Boot Do?
A constant-velocity joint allows the driveshaft to transfer engine torque while accommodating changes in suspension position and driveshaft angle. The precision internal components of the joint operate under substantial load and rely on specialised grease to minimise friction and wear.

The flexible CV boot creates a sealed protective environment around the joint by:
Keeping CV joint grease inside
