The Fabspeed Porsche 991 Carrera RENNKRAFT Modular Headers with HJS Catalytic Converters are a high-performance exhaust manifold and sport-catalyst upgrade developed for Porsche 991 Carrera models from 2012–2016.
Fits:
- Porsche 991.1 Carrera C2 3.4L (350 Bhp) 2012-16
- Porsche 991.1 Carrera C4 3.4L (350 Bhp) 2012-16
Fabspeed’s patented RENNKRAFT® modular design combines performance headers with removable catalyst sections connected by quick-release V-band clamps. In the road-oriented configuration, the system uses German HJS HD tri-metallic 200-cell catalytic converters to provide high exhaust flow while retaining catalytic exhaust treatment.
The headers are manufactured from CNC mandrel-bent T304L stainless steel and incorporate F1-style high-velocity merge collectors intended to improve exhaust scavenging. Fabspeed states that the system was developed from 3D scans of the original Porsche headers to achieve accurate bolt-on fitment.
For a mechanically healthy Porsche, this system is primarily a performance, exhaust-flow and sound upgrade rather than a maintenance replacement.
What This Product Does:
- The exhaust headers collect gases leaving each cylinder and route them toward the catalytic converters and the rest of the exhaust system.
- The factory headers must balance manufacturing cost, packaging, emissions performance, noise control and exhaust flow. The Fabspeed RENNKRAFT system is designed to provide a less restrictive route while improving the way exhaust pulses merge.
- Fabspeed states that the system provides +25 horsepower and +20 lb-ft of torque. These are Fabspeed-published figures from its testing and actual gains may vary according to vehicle condition, fuel, ambient conditions and the remainder of the exhaust system.
- The header system is designed to improve exhaust flow, enhance scavenging, produce a more aggressive exhaust note and create a modular platform that allows catalyst sections to be serviced or changed independently.
Symptoms Of Wear Or Failure:
- Factory exhaust headers are exposed to extremely high temperatures and repeated heating and cooling cycles.
- Possible signs of deterioration include exhaust ticking when cold, blowing or hissing noises, visible cracks, damaged welds, loose flange hardware, black soot around leaking joints, unusual exhaust smells, metallic rattling, increased engine-bay exhaust noise or reduced performance caused by leakage or restriction.
- Leaks often become more noticeable during cold start because gaps can change as the exhaust system reaches operating temperature.
- Catalytic converters can deteriorate through mileage, excessive heat, contamination or underlying engine problems.
- Potential symptoms include a Check Engine Light, catalyst-efficiency fault codes, reduced high-RPM performance, sluggish acceleration, excessive exhaust heat, metallic rattling from inside the catalyst, unusual exhaust smells or a feeling that the engine is unable to breathe freely at higher loads.
- A physically damaged catalyst substrate can break apart or melt, potentially creating exhaust restriction.
Why Replacement Matters:
- A leaking or cracked exhaust header can allow hot exhaust gases to escape before they reach the remainder of the exhaust system.
- This can lead to increased noise, inaccurate oxygen-sensor readings, reduced engine performance and unnecessary heat around nearby components.
- A blocked or damaged catalytic converter can create excessive exhaust restriction. On a naturally aspirated engine such as the 991.1 Carrera, restriction can reduce the engine’s ability to evacuate exhaust gases efficiently and may result in reduced power, poor high-RPM response and increased exhaust temperatures.
- Replacing worn or failed components restores a sealed and properly flowing exhaust path.
- If the original components are still healthy, however, fitting the Fabspeed RENNKRAFT system is mainly a performance and sound upgrade.
NOTE: In the United Kingdom, sports catalytic converters and bypass pipes do not have type approval and are not legally permitted for use on vehicles manufactured after 1st March 2001. They are not MOT compliant and cannot be used on public roads. These components are intended solely for race and track use.
If you are located outside the UK, please check your local laws and regulations to ensure compliance.
