Reconditioned Steering rack, for RHD (Right Hand Drive) vehicles.
The steering rack’s primary role is to convert the driver’s steering wheel movement into precise lateral motion that turns the front wheels. It operates through a rack-and-pinion mechanism, where a small toothed gear (the pinion) engages a toothed bar (the rack). As the steering wheel turns, the pinion rotates, moving the rack left or right - steering the front wheels accordingly.

Fits:
For RHD (Right Hand Drive) cars (I099)
Porsche 987.1 Boxster 2005 - 2008
Porsche 987C.1 Cayman 2005 - 2008
Porsche 997.1 Carrera 2005 - 2008
Porsche 997.1 Turbo 2007 - 2009
Porsche 997.2 Carrera 2009 - 2012

• Position on Vehicle: Front steering rack assembly mounted under the front body structure, linking the steering column to the front tie-rods and controlling lateral wheel movement.

• Cross-Reference / Alternative Numbers: OEM Porsche part number: 997 347 012 09 (also shown as 99734701209), Supersedes earlier reference numbers 99734701204 / 99734701205 / 99734701206 / 99734701207 / 99734701208

• Applications: Replacement when the original steering rack shows signs of wear, leakages, play, inconsistent assist or compromised steering feel - maintaining the authentic Porsche driving experience.

The steering gear is fundamental to accurate, safe and confident vehicle control. A worn, leaking or loose rack can introduce play, reduce steering precision, cause drift or uneven tyre wear, and compromise your vehicle’s handling integrity. Replacing it with the genuine Porsche part ensures factory-calibre performance, correct geometry, and preserves your car’s handling heritage.

When and why to replace:
• Observed steering fluid leak or torn boots at the rack end.
• Noticeable play or looseness in the steering wheel or vague centre feel.
• Heavy or inconsistent steering assistance, especially at low speeds.
• Noise or harshness when steering through bumps or turns.
• During major front-end or steering system service when access simplifies replacement.
• High-mileage vehicle where the original rack has done significant duty and may be near its service life.

We strongly recommend replacing the power steering pump at the same time as the steering rack. Swarf (metal particles) in the power steering system can circulate and cause damage to both components. If you choose to replace only the steering rack and, upon return of your exchange unit, we discover that the rack bar is scored or contaminated with swarf, this indicates that debris is present in the system. In such cases, we advise replacing the pump as well.
Please note: if we have advised that there is swarf in the system and you choose not to replace both components, any future warranty claims related to this issue will not be valid.

Please note good reconditioned steering racks are becoming very hard for us to supply and this is simply because the core exchange units are not being returned to us. If you fail to return the core unit to us within 30 days we reserve the right to charge you the full price of a replacement steering rack.

The most common power steering faults are:
- Leaking power steering
- Torn Gators
- Hard to steering when idling
- Hard to steering one-way
- Steering-Wheel not self-centering
- Noise when Idling
- Noise when steering
- Judders when steering
- Loss of all power in steering
- Semi-Loss of power in steering
- Electric steering problems

Above are just some of the problems our customers are faced with on a day-to-day basis with their power steering units. We can replace your old unit with a Reconditioned unit. If we don't have a replacement available, we can take in your own unit and recondition it for you. Where a new unit can cost £100's we can recondition/supply reconditioned units at a fraction of this price!

All reconditioned racks come with 1 Year or 12,000 miles warranty!!

Replacement stainless steel pipes for LHD (Left Hand drive) power steering rack
Other than buying a completely new steering rack or having your existing steering rack refurbished, which are both very expensive options, we now offer replacement steering rack pipes which are normally not available separately, the two replacement pipes fit to the steering rack, these pipes normally deteriorate. The steering rack of a power-assisted car needs a hydraulic circuit: a pressure line (high pressure) from the power steering pump (or pump + reservoir assembly) to the steering rack, and a return line (low pressure) from the rack back to the reservoir (or pump return side).
