What Does the PMO EFI Throttle Body Kit Do?
PMO individual throttle bodies replace carburettors or the existing induction system as part of a complete electronic fuel injection conversion.
Each cylinder receives its own throttle bore, providing direct and responsive airflow. Fuel is delivered through individual injectors controlled by a compatible programmable ECU.
When correctly installed and tuned, benefits can include:
- Sharper throttle response
- Precise electronic fuel control
- Improved engine tuneability
- Better cold starting and driveability
- Accurate control of air/fuel ratios
- Potential improvements in performance and fuel efficiency
- Individual throttle response for each cylinder
- Classic competition appearance with modern EFI technology
40mm, 46mm or 50mm – Which Size?
PMO offers three throttle body sizes to suit different
air-cooled Porsche engine specifications.
- 40mm – Ideal for smaller-capacity and road-focused engines where good air velocity, throttle response and low-to-mid-range performance are important.
- 46mm – Suitable for larger-capacity, fast-road and modified engines requiring increased airflow while maintaining excellent throttle response.
- 50mm – Designed for highly modified, large-capacity and competition engines where maximum airflow and high-RPM performance are required.
Correct sizing depends on engine capacity, cylinder heads, camshafts, compression ratio, intended RPM range and power requirements. Consult your engine builder when selecting the appropriate size.
Precision PMO Construction
PMO EFI throttle bodies are precision CNC machined and hand assembled in Anaheim, California using aerospace-grade materials.
Sealed ball bearings provide durability, while the one-piece throttle shaft maintains accurate alignment for smooth and consistent throttle operation.
Tapered 52mm intake throats improve airflow into the throttle bodies, while billet fuel rails accommodate Bosch-style fuel injectors.
EFI Management Compatibility
PMO EFI throttle bodies can be used with programmable engine management systems including Haltech, MegaSquirt, MoTeC and other suitable aftermarket EFI controllers.
The ECU must be correctly configured and tuned for the individual engine specification.
Injector size, fuel pressure, sensors and ECU configuration should be discussed with your engine builder or EFI system supplier before installation.
Converting from Carburettors to EFI
A carburettor-to-EFI conversion requires a suitable high-pressure fuel system in addition to the throttle bodies.
A fuel pump capable of approximately 60 psi is required. The Walbro GSL393 external universal inline fuel pump, rated at approximately 160 LPH, is one suitable option. Another correctly specified 60 psi EFI fuel pump can also be used.
Fuel lines, filters, pressure regulation and associated components must be suitable for EFI operating pressures.
Associated components to add include:- Fuel rail retaining/injector clip – 534-102
- TPS sensor – 17123852
- Bosch-style fuel injectors
- Suitable high-pressure EFI fuel pump
- Compatible programmable ECU
Fuel injector specification should be selected according to engine capacity, expected power output, fuel type and EFI system requirements.

Throttle Bodies & Plenum Chambers – Engine Breathing Precision for Porsche Performance
Throttle bodies and plenum chambers are critical components of your Porsche’s air intake system. Together, they regulate and distribute airflow entering the engine, directly influencing throttle response, torque, and overall driving performance. The throttle body controls how much air enters the intake manifold, while the plenum chamber ensures balanced air delivery to all cylinders — maintaining consistent power and efficiency across the rev range.
At Design911, we supply a complete range of genuine and high-quality throttle bodies and plenum chambers for Porsche models like 911, Boxster, Cayman, Cayenne, Macan, and Panamera models. Each unit is precision-engineered for smooth airflow, accurate response, and long-term reliability, keeping your Porsche performing at its best.
What Do Throttle Bodies & Plenum Chambers Do?
These components are essential for efficient engine
breathing and performance tuning. Their key functions include:
- Controlling
airflow entering the engine for precise throttle response.
- Optimising
air distribution to each cylinder for smooth, balanced power.
- Improving
combustion efficiency and engine performance.
- Supporting enhanced torque and acceleration in naturally aspirated and turbocharged engines.
In performance models, upgraded throttle bodies and plenum chambers can increase air volume and flow efficiency — unlocking additional horsepower and sharper throttle control.
Why Do Throttle Bodies & Plenum Chambers Fail?
Over time, these components can experience wear,
contamination, or mechanical issues due to harsh operating conditions. Common
causes of failure include:
- Carbon
buildup or dirt affecting airflow and throttle operation.
- Electronic
faults in the throttle actuator or position sensor.
- Air
leaks from worn seals or cracked housings.
- Heat
damage or corrosion in the plenum chamber.
- Mechanical sticking of the throttle plate or linkage.
Symptoms of failure include rough idle, reduced acceleration, check engine light warnings, poor throttle response, or inconsistent idle speed.
Why Replace Faulty Throttle Bodies or Plenum Chambers?
A damaged or restricted throttle body or plenum chamber can significantly reduce engine performance and responsiveness. Replacing these components restores precise airflow control, smooth throttle transitions, and optimal fuel efficiency.
Benefits of replacement include:
- Restored engine power and responsiveness.
- Improved air distribution and combustion efficiency.
- Smoother idling and better fuel economy.
- Long-term reliability with manufacturer-quality precision.
All throttle bodies and plenum chambers available from Design911 are built using advanced materials, high-precision machining, and corrosion-resistant finishes — ensuring dependable performance and durability in every Porsche application.
