What the Products Do

  • Cam Cover Gaskets: Seal the camshaft/valve covers to the cylinder head, preventing engine oil leaks and keeping contaminants out.
  • Bolts: Maintain correct torque and clamping pressure on the covers, ensuring the gaskets stay sealed under heat and vibration.

Together, they protect your engine from oil leaks, maintain lubrication, and preserve long-term engine health.

Symptoms of Failure

  • Visible oil leaks around the cam/valve cover area
  • Burning oil smell from oil dripping onto exhaust components
  • Oil spots under the car after parking
  • Low oil levels or frequent top-ups
  • Rough running or misfires caused by oil leaking into spark plug wells

Common Reasons for Failure

  • Age & Heat: Gaskets harden and lose flexibility after years of heat cycling.
  • Oil Exposure: Continuous contact with hot oil degrades gasket material.
  • Bolt Stretch or Loosening: Original bolts lose clamping force over time, allowing leaks.
  • Improper Previous Repair: Reusing old bolts or over-tightening can warp covers and damage seals.

Why Replace as a Kit?

  • Ensures complete resealing of both cam covers in one service.
  • New bolts guarantee proper torque and sealing pressure.
  • Prevents oil leaks that can cause engine bay mess, smoke, or fire hazards.
  • Protects against premature engine wear from low oil levels.
  • Saves on labour by replacing all related components at once.

Ideal For: Routine maintenance, leak repair, or as a preventive upgrade during top-end engine service.

Constructed from premium heat-resistant gasket materials, the cam cover gaskets are engineered to withstand continuous exposure to engine oil, high operating temperatures, pressure fluctuations and vibration. They play a vital role in maintaining engine cleanliness, preserving lubrication efficiency and ensuring long-term engine reliability.

What This Product Does:
  • Creates a secure seal between the cam cover and cylinder head.
  • Prevents engine oil leaks from the valvetrain area.
  • Helps maintain correct engine oil levels and lubrication.
  • Protects camshaft and valvetrain components from contamination.
  • Supports efficient engine operation and reliability.
  • Helps maintain engine cleanliness.
  • Contributes to long-term engine protection and performance.

Symptoms Of Wear Or Failure:
  • Visible oil leaks around the cam cover.
  • Oil residue on the cylinder head or surrounding engine components.
  • Burning oil smell from oil contacting hot engine parts.

  • Low engine oil levels between services.
  • Smoke from the engine bay caused by oil leakage.
  • Dirt accumulation around leaking gasket areas.
  • Oil contamination of ignition components in certain applications.
  • Increased engine bay contamination from leaking oil.

Why Replacement Matters:
  • Cam cover gaskets operate in demanding conditions and are constantly exposed to engine heat, oil, vibration and thermal cycling. Over time, gasket materials can harden, shrink, crack or lose elasticity, reducing their ability to maintain an effective seal.
  • A failing cam cover gasket can allow engine oil to escape from the cylinder head area, resulting in oil loss, contamination of surrounding components and reduced engine cleanliness. If left unresolved, ongoing oil leaks can contribute to reduced lubrication efficiency, increased engine wear and potential damage to nearby electrical or ignition system components.
  • Replacing a worn cam cover gasket restores proper sealing, prevents oil leaks and helps maintain the integrity of the engine lubrication system. An OE Match replacement provides factory-style fitment, dependable sealing performance and long-term durability, ensuring reliable protection for your Porsche engine and valvetrain assembly.

The sealing ring helps prevent oil, coolant or other fluids from leaking between closely fitted engine/transmission surfaces. It forms a compression seal around shafts or bores where fluid containment is critical. A properly functioning seal keeps fluids contained, minimizes the risk of contamination, and preserves lubrication where it’s needed most - such as around pistons, cylinders, or fluid passages.

Application: Engine or drivetrain sealing ring used in cylinder base or other fluid interface points where a precise rubber seal is required to maintain fluid containment and mechanical integrity.

Replace this sealing ring if you notice:
Visible fluid leaks around engine or transmission joint areas
Low oil or fluid levels without external explanation
During engine or transmission removal and service
When original seals show visible wear, cracking, or hardening

Product Information
Product Information
Hylomar Gasket 3400 is a modified anaerobic curing, flexible sealant designed to become a Formed in Place (FIP) Gasket when cured. The cured compound has good temperature resistance and high resistance to fretting. The cure is initiated when the compound is in contact with metal ions and in anaerobic conditions. The cure rate and final strength is dependent on the metals being joined and the temperature at which the component is used. The heat generated by a running engine will accelerate the cure.

Typical Applications
Hylomar Gasket 3400 can be used as a gasketing compound between machined surfaces. It is ideal for sealing between mating faces on engines and transmission components where resistance to temperature and vibration are essential.

INSTRUCTIONS FOR USE
Hylomar Gasket 3400 should be applied to clean and dry surfaces, free of contamination such as oil or grease. The compound may be dispensed by hand from cartridge, concertina pack, or via a screen printing system. Once applied the joint should be assembled as soon as practical. Any excess compound can be easily wiped off external surfaces with a clean cloth soaked in Acetone or other suitable solvents.

About Gaskets & Sets

Engine Gaskets & Gasket Sets – Precision Sealing for Porsche Engines

Engine gaskets are vital components that ensure your Porsche’s engine operates efficiently and leak-free. Positioned between key engine surfaces such as the cylinder head, intake manifold, and oil pan, gaskets maintain a perfect seal against high temperatures, pressures, and fluids.

At Design911, we offer a comprehensive range of engine gaskets, seals, and complete gasket kits for Porsche models of every generation. Each gasket is crafted from high-quality composite, metal, or elastomer materials to withstand the extreme conditions of high-performance engines — ensuring optimal sealing, reduced oil and coolant leaks, and consistent compression.

Whether you’re rebuilding a classic 911 flat-six or servicing a modern turbocharged Porsche engine, our manufacturer-quality gaskets and complete kits guarantee reliability, performance, and peace of mind.

What Do Engine Gaskets and Gasket Sets Do?

Gaskets play a critical role in ensuring that various engine systems — combustion, lubrication, and cooling — remain properly sealed.

Core Functions:

  • Prevent leaks of oil, coolant, air, and combustion gases.
  • Maintain compression between the engine block and cylinder head.
  • Ensure efficient combustion and proper engine pressure balance.
  • Protect internal components from cross-contamination of fluids.

A properly sealed engine not only improves performance and efficiency but also prevents costly long-term damage.

Why Do Gaskets Fail?

Despite their durability, gaskets naturally degrade over time due to extreme heat cycles, pressure variations, and material fatigue.

Common Causes of Gasket Failure Include:

  • Overheating, causing warping or breakdown of the gasket material.
  • Improper installation or torqueing during assembly.
  • Aging materials that harden or crack with use.
  • Chemical degradation from oil or coolant exposure.
  • Uneven pressure or engine vibration, leading to micro-leaks.

Typical symptoms of gasket failure include oil or coolant leaks, reduced compression, overheating, or visible residue at gasket joints.

Why Replace with Precision-Engineered Gaskets and Kits?

Replacing worn or leaking gaskets is essential to maintain proper engine compression, prevent contamination, and restore overall reliability. Our direct-fit gasket sets and kits are designed to meet or exceed Porsche engineering standards, providing complete sealing solutions for rebuilds and maintenance.

Key Benefits:

  • Restores proper sealing and compression integrity.
  • Prevents oil and coolant leaks for cleaner performance.
  • Enhances efficiency and reliability under load.
  • Manufactured from high-grade, heat- and pressure-resistant materials.
  • Available as individual gaskets or complete kits for full rebuilds.
  • Direct-fit compatibility for a wide range of Porsche models.

Our gasket sets are ideal for engine rebuilds, overhauls, and preventive maintenance, ensuring long-term dependability and peak performance.
