SSI
SSI Exhaust Systems – Performance Headers for Classic Porsche Engines
SSI Exhausts is a highly respected performance exhaust manufacturer, best known for producing stainless steel exhaust headers for classic air-cooled Porsche models. Founded with a focus on motorsport-inspired engineering, SSI systems are designed to improve exhaust flow, throttle response, and engine efficiency while maintaining period-correct fitment and sound
Widely regarded as the benchmark upgrade for Porsche 911, 912 and early air-cooled flat-six engines, SSI exhausts combine precision fabrication with durable stainless steel construction. The result is improved mid-range torque, enhanced drivability, and a classic Porsche exhaust note that enthusiasts value.
At Design911, we supply genuine SSI exhaust components trusted by restorers, tuners, and classic Porsche specialists worldwide.
What Does SSI Exhausts Manufacture?
SSI specialises in performance stainless steel exhaust
headers and heat exchangers for classic Porsche engines. Their product range
focuses on:
- Equal-length stainless steel exhaust headers
- High-flow exhaust systems for air-cooled engines
- Heat exchangers compatible with factory heating systems
- Precision-welded components for exact Porsche fitment
SSI systems are engineered to optimise exhaust scavenging, improving power delivery without sacrificing reliability or originality.
Why Choose SSI Exhaust Systems?
SSI exhausts are a popular upgrade because they offer:
- Improved exhaust flow and engine breathing
- Noticeable gains in torque and throttle response
- Durable stainless steel construction
- Period-correct design for classic Porsche restorations
Unlike generic aftermarket exhausts, SSI systems are designed specifically around Porsche engine architecture, making them ideal for both performance builds and high-quality restorations.
When Should You Upgrade to an SSI Exhaust?
An SSI exhaust system is recommended when:
- Replacing corroded or restrictive factory exhaust components
- Restoring a classic Porsche to driver or fast-road specification
- Improving engine performance without internal modifications
- Seeking a refined, authentic air-cooled Porsche exhaust sound
Upgrading to SSI exhaust components delivers long-term durability and performance improvements while preserving the character of classic Porsche models.
At Design911, we stock carefully selected SSI exhaust systems to support dependable performance and authentic Porsche driving experiences.

LONG LIFE
Made using AISI 321/EN4531 titanium stabilized stainless steel the expected life in the severest road conditions (salt) is 20-30 years.
HIGHER POWER OUTPUT
Output is increased particularly in the low and middle RPM ranges. The design makes power by minimizing intake charge disturbances at valve overlap, and increasing the exhaust gas extraction effect. The volumetric efficiency, and thereby the power output is increased. The SSI headers are significantly improved versions of the basic header design used by Porsche on all normally aspirated six cylinder competition engines.
CARBON MONOXIDE SAFE
Unlike all other aftermarket heat exchangers, the SSI heat exchanger headers are made to minimize the possibility that engine produced acids will internally corrode the enclosed primary tubes, thereby allowing carbon monoxide to enter the passenger compartment. The AISI 304 stainless steel tubing is highly resistant to the byproducts of combustion. SSI use only one piece primary tubes, eliminating the possibility of hand-made welds cracking, and the resulting carbon monoxide leaks.
