Choosing the Right Fit for Your Porsche
Where Classic Retrofit is listed for Porsche, use the supplied model coverage and OE references to confirm suitability. Check details that commonly affect fitment such as model year, side/position, and connector type where relevant.
- Typical reasons to choose these parts include improving day-to-day usability and reliability on classic Porsche models by modernising charging, lighting, HVAC, or electrical systems while keeping a sympathetic, period-style appearance.
- Common electrical triggers include weak charging, intermittent electrics, dim lighting, blown fuses, unreliable relays, and voltage drop from ageing wiring, poor grounds, or heat-damaged connectors.
- Before fitting upgrades, clean and inspect earth points and confirm wiring condition to avoid masking underlying issues.
- Where possible, keep original parts so that changes remain reversible on classic Porsche restorations.
Browse by Category
If you already know the area you are working on, start with the category and then filter by Porsche model. Where real-world symptoms and typical reasons to replace are provided, use them to keep the wording grounded.
Electrical & Relays — These parts are typically chosen when a Porsche develops intermittent electrical faults, repeated fuse issues, or unreliable switching of key systems such as fuel pumps, fans, lighting, or accessories, and owners want higher quality, better-sealed components.
- Check basic items first: fuse rating and condition, relay seating, connector corrosion, and earth points before condemning multiple components.
- Intermittent faults that respond to heat, vibration, or tapping on a relay often indicate worn contacts or weak connections.
Ignition Switch — This area covers switch and related components that are replaced when the car shows intermittent no-crank, loss of accessories, flickering dash lights, or “turn the key again and it works” behaviour traced to worn ignition switch contacts.
- Confirm battery and ground condition, then verify ignition switch outputs in each key position before replacing parts.
- Measure voltage at ignition outputs during crank; a significant drop can point towards internal switch/contact problems rather than the starter itself.
Relays / Fuses — Relays and fuses are replaced when a circuit fails completely or intermittently, repeated fuse blowing points to an underlying short or overload, or heat damage is found around the fuse box or relay sockets on a Porsche.
- If a function returns after tapping a relay or swapping with an identical known-good unit, suspect worn relay contacts or poor terminal fitment.
- Always replace fuses with the correct rating and investigate the cause of any repeated blowing to avoid wiring damage or fire risk.
Engine Electrical — Engine electrical components are renewed when a Porsche suffers from intermittent no-start, misfires, rough idle, stalling, poor charging, warning lights, or heat-related failures linked to alternators, starters, sensors, coils, or wiring.
- Use fault codes as a guide only; confirm issues with proper testing of power, grounds, and signal wiring before replacing sensors or control units.
- Start diagnosis with battery health, main earth straps, connector condition, and voltage-drop checks under load to avoid chasing misleading symptoms.

The Classic Retrofit 8-pin CDI+ ignition unit is our direct replacement for Bosch CDI spark boxes used in many classic Porsche race cars, including the 911 RSR, 934, 935, 917 and 962. It was also fitted to the early 3-litre 930/911 Turbo and other race cars of the period, including BMW CSL.
Fitted in a replica CDI case, this unit is a wonderful upgrade for vintage racers where originality and reliability are equally important. It has been tried and tested in many vehicles, including several Le Mans winners still in circulation.
The Classic Retrofit 8-pin CDI+ unit requires no modifications to the original wiring loom harness or metalwork and is 'plug and play'. The soft and hard rev limiters can be programmed via a laptop. All CDI+ units have a 48 MHz microprocessor onboard to control ignition timing.
It is a little-known fact that the 8-pin CDI boxes provide better regulation over the output voltage than the 3- and 6-pin units. Our redesigned electronic system brings the original voltage regulation concept bang up to date, not just by providing even better regulated output across all of our CDI units, but also by offering true dual-spark output at a 400us interval that truly makes a difference to combustion, right up to 10,000 RPM.

Our new, Gen 2 fresh air blower assembly for Porsche 911 models is designed to replace the ancient and noisy original fresh air blower.
As with all Classic Retrofit products, it fits straight into the car without modification, using the original electrical plug and Bowden cable work.
It is true plug and play.
Internally, the blower unit uses a modern double-cage fan which can move more air than the original. The real game changer is that it incorporates a modern parallel flow evaporator.
This allows a 911 with our A/C to get rid of the clunky separate A/C blower in the smuggler's box (LHD) or behind the passenger footboard (RHD). Two blowers are integrated into one modern unit, saving weight and space.
You can pair this blower with a traditional A/C system or if you want to join the electric A/C revolution, try our complete electric kit.

Classic Retrofit replacement CDI+ ignition offers you bespoke modern electronics in a standard looking package. The CDI+ unit requires no modifications to the original wiring harness or vehicle metalwork and is 'plug and play'.
The CDI+ is a direct replacement for the 3 pin and 6 pin Bosch units fitted to Porsche 911's between 1969 and 1983 (and turbo models to ~1988). All CDI+ units have a 48 MHz microprocessor onboard to control ignition timing.
Advanced Unit:
The advanced unit allows the adjustment/tuning of the ignition advance curve and other features by plugging in a laptop. This can be achieved by 'overlaying' a curve on top of the distributor weights/springs curve or by locking the distributor and replacing the curve completely. Either way, you can unlock the true potential of your engine by adjusting fuelling and having the ignition curve to match.
The CDI+ has all the features of the basic unit but allow more flexibility in adjustment:
-Fully programmable ignition advance curve.
-Hard RPM limiter with adjustable ignition cut schemes
-Soft RPM limiter with adjustable ignition retard
-Launch RPM limiter
-Double spark at all RPMs
-Max RPM tell tale
-Shift Light output
-Clutch pedal input
-Tacho calibration
-Upgradeable through firmware updates

Classic Retrofit replacement CDI+ ignition offers you bespoke modern electronics in a standard looking package. The CDI+ unit requires no modifications to the original wiring harness or vehicle metalwork and is 'plug and play'.
The CDI+ is a direct replacement for the 3 pin and 6 pin Bosch units fitted to Porsche 911's between 1969 and 1983 (and turbo models to ~1988). All CDI+ units have a 48 MHz microprocessor onboard to control ignition timing.
The basic unit is a plug and play replacement for the Original Bosch CDI. It will work with the existing distributor without modification and still uses the weights and springs for the advance curve. It is pre-set at the factory (to your specification) and has the following features:
- Hard RPM limiter.
- Soft RPM limiter.
- Double spark at all RPMs
- Shift Light output
- Tacho calibration
- Upgradeable through firmware updates (at one of our specialists)
- The following parameters can be adjusted using the hidden 'jog wheel'.
- Hard RPM limiter.
- Soft RPM limiter.
- Shift light RPM.
- Tacho calibration.
The Classic Retrofit 3-pin CDI+ ignition unit is a direct replacement for Bosch CDI units used in the classic Porsche 911 from 1969 to 1977. Extensive development and rigorous dyno testing has proven our CDI+ unit to be a major improvement over the original Bosch CDI, with improved torque right across the rev range.
CDI ignition was originally fitted to a great many European sports cars of the 1970s and 1980s, including Maserati Ghibli, Alfa Romeo Montreal and are popular with BMW 3.0 CSL racers. Our CDI+ is a great upgrade for all of these applications.
